Traditional Rituals Mark the Opening Ceremony

The festival commenced with devotional prayers and the revered Ganga Aarti at the Parmarth Niketan Ghat. The ceremony was led by Swami Chidanand Saraswati, President of Parmarth Niketan Ashram, who offered special prayers seeking blessings from the holy river.

The opening ceremony was attended by Acharya Balkrishna of Patanjali Yog Peeth as the chief guest. Renowned percussionist Shivamani was also present, adding a cultural dimension to the spiritual event.

Hundreds of visitors and devotees gathered along the riverbank to witness the ceremonial lighting of lamps and participate in the evening prayer. The peaceful setting of the Ganga, combined with chanting and devotional music, created an atmosphere of reflection and spiritual connection.

Global Interest in Yoga and Ayurveda

Speaking during the event, Swami Chidanand Saraswati highlighted the growing global curiosity about yoga and traditional Indian knowledge systems. He noted that the influence of teachers such as Acharya Balkrishna has helped people explore Ayurveda alongside yoga.

According to him, the increasing interest shows how deeply people across the world are engaging with Indian spirituality and holistic health practices. He said that when authentic guidance is offered, people are eager to follow paths that promote physical well-being and inner balance.

He also encouraged participants to make yoga a part of their daily routine, emphasizing its role in maintaining health and preventing illness.

Participants from Dozens of Countries

The Yoga Festival has attracted visitors from nearly 80 countries, reflecting the international appeal of yoga as a wellness and spiritual practice. Organizers confirmed that many participants have already arrived in Rishikesh to take part in workshops, meditation sessions, and discussions scheduled throughout the week.

Diplomats and representatives from several countries are also expected to attend various sessions of the festival.

In addition, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the state’s Governor, Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.), are expected to visit the event during the week.

Yoga as a Bridge for Global Harmony

Organizers say the festival serves as more than just a gathering for yoga practice. It is also designed as a platform to encourage dialogue, cultural exchange, and shared learning among participants from diverse backgrounds.

Swami Chidanand Saraswati pointed out that attendees include individuals from countries such as Iran, Israel, the United States, Russia, and Ukraine. He noted that yoga provides a common ground where people from different cultures and political backgrounds can come together peacefully.

According to him, yoga promotes harmony not only within the body and mind but also among communities and nations. By encouraging balance and mindfulness, the practice helps people develop a deeper sense of connection with others.

Weeklong Program of Yoga and Spiritual Learning

Throughout the week, the festival will feature daily yoga sessions, guided meditation, lectures, cultural performances, and discussions on holistic health. Experienced teachers and spiritual leaders will lead sessions designed for both beginners and advanced practitioners.

Participants will also have opportunities to explore subjects such as mindfulness, Ayurveda, and sustainable living practices inspired by ancient Indian traditions.

As the festival continues over the coming days, organizers hope that visitors will not only deepen their yoga practice but also carry its message of peace, balance, and unity back to their communities around the world.
