When Justice Collides with Power: A Survivor’s Struggle for Truth in India’s Political Landscape

When Justice Collides with Power: When the Delhi High Court granted bail to the Unnao rape case convict and former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, public anger erupted across the country. Protests took place at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on December 28, 2025, where citizens demanded accountability and questioned the priorities of the justice system. Amid slogans and placards, one masked woman stepped forward, not just to oppose the bail order, but to expose a deeper and far more disturbing reality where political power, influence, and crime intersect, often at the cost of survivors.

Her testimony shifted the focus of the protest from a single verdict to a broader crisis of justice. She alleged that she herself had been sexually assaulted by a former MLA and that her fight for justice had stretched over several years, marked by fear, coercion, and systemic neglect.

A Survivor Breaks Her Silence at Jantar Mantar

During the protest, the woman revealed that she was allegedly raped by former Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav. According to her, she had remained silent for years due to intimidation and manipulation, only now finding the courage to speak publicly. She claimed that despite repeated attempts, justice had remained out of reach, largely due to the political clout of the accused.

She further stated that after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party, Yadav became associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party in February 2025, a move she believes strengthened his influence and ability to silence opposition.

How the Alleged Abuse Began

The survivor explained that she and her husband first encountered Yadav in 2015 at Kalu Ram Chowk in Mehrauli during a public meeting attended by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. What started as a brief interaction later escalated when Yadav visited the couple’s residence.

She alleged that her husband, an engineer preparing for the Indian Engineering Services examination, was pressured to work for Yadav. When he refused, the survivor claimed that Yadav began targeting her instead, citing her confidence, communication skills, and public presence.

Manipulation, Trust, and Betrayal

According to the survivor, by 2019 she was introduced during political events as Yadav’s daughter, while her husband was portrayed as her brother. She was allegedly coerced into working as an anchor for election campaigns, particularly when her husband was away.

She described how Yadav cultivated a relationship of trust, encouraging her to address him as “Dadu,” a term symbolizing familial respect. This trust, she claimed, was later exploited. One evening, under the pretext of a mandatory meeting, she was called to his residence, where she found herself alone except for a servant who was soon sent away.

The Alleged Assault and Its Aftermath

The survivor alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside the residence after being lured there deliberately. She stated that she was shocked and emotionally shattered, unable to comprehend how someone who claimed to see her as a daughter could commit such an act.

She further alleged that explicit videos and photographs were used to blackmail her into silence. According to her account, the trauma did not end with a single incident but continued through threats, coercion, and repeated abuse.

Barriers to Justice and Institutional Silence

The survivor said that since 2020 she has been demanding justice but faced continuous obstacles, including the alleged refusal of police to register her complaint. She claimed that her family members were threatened and pressured to withdraw or suppress the case.

She also alleged that she was forcibly married to Yadav and later compelled to undergo an abortion. Displaying a bundle of written complaints, she stated that the accused openly boasted about his control over police stations and the judicial system.

Allegations of Abduction and Repeated Abuse

The survivor further alleged that she was raped multiple times across different locations in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. One such incident reportedly occurred at Calista Resort in Kapashera, Delhi, where she claimed she was abducted and abused. The resort has also been referenced in the documentary series Transparency: Pardarshita, written and directed by Dr. Munish Kumar Raizada, which explores misuse of power and authority.

Political Denial and Legal Counterclaims

On January 16, 2026, Yadav spoke to media outlet 10 News Network, denying all allegations and calling them false. He stated that he had filed a counter complaint against the woman but did not share further details, urging media organizations to verify facts before publication.

A History of Controversy

This is not the first time Yadav has been associated with serious allegations. In 2024, he was sentenced to two years in prison by a court in Punjab’s Malerkotla district in connection with the 2016 Quran desecration case. Although the sentence was later suspended, the case added to public scrutiny of his actions.

A Fight That Continues

Recently, Supreme Court advocate Smitha Prasad joined the survivor’s legal battle, offering hope that her case may finally receive the attention it deserves. Her story reflects not just personal trauma, but a larger question facing Indian democracy: what happens when power overshadows justice, and how long must survivors wait to be heard?
