Weather – Light Rain Likely in South Tamil Nadu as Heat Rises
Weather – Parts of southern Tamil Nadu are set to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next few days, according to the Regional Meteorological Department. Even as these showers bring brief relief in select areas, temperatures across the state are expected to steadily climb, signalling a shift towards warmer conditions.

Weather System Influencing Rainfall
Meteorologists have identified a trough of low pressure stretching from the interior regions of Tamil Nadu to northern interior Karnataka at an altitude of about 900 metres. This system is playing a key role in shaping the current weather pattern. As a result, scattered rainfall is expected, particularly in coastal districts of southern Tamil Nadu and areas along the Western Ghats.
On Thursday, only isolated locations are likely to experience light rainfall. However, the intensity is expected to increase slightly over the following two days. Forecasts indicate that April 3 and 4 may see light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in certain pockets, especially in coastal and hilly regions.
Limited Rainfall Across Other Areas
While southern districts may witness intermittent showers, most other parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to remain dry. The weather department has stated that regions outside the identified zones, including Puducherry and Karaikal, are not expected to receive any significant rainfall during this period.
This uneven distribution of rainfall reflects a localized weather pattern, where only specific regions benefit from moisture while the rest of the state continues to experience dry conditions.
Rising Temperatures Across the State
Despite the rainfall forecast, a gradual increase in daytime temperatures is anticipated across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Officials have cautioned that the mercury is likely to rise in the coming days, leading to warmer and more humid weather, particularly in inland districts.
The combination of heat and humidity could make daytime conditions uncomfortable, especially in areas already prone to high temperatures during this time of year.
Chennai to Experience Warm and Humid Days
In the state capital, Chennai, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy over the next two days. However, this cloud cover is unlikely to provide much relief from the heat. Daytime temperatures are projected to cross 35 degrees Celsius, adding to the discomfort for residents.
Humidity levels are also expected to remain high, which may intensify the feeling of heat. Residents are likely to experience sticky and warm conditions throughout the day.
Advisory for Residents
Weather experts have advised people to take necessary precautions as temperatures rise. Staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours are recommended measures.
Those living in heat-sensitive areas are particularly encouraged to remain cautious, as increasing temperatures combined with humidity can lead to health concerns such as dehydration or heat exhaustion.
Transition Towards Summer Conditions
The current weather pattern indicates a transitional phase in Tamil Nadu’s climate. While localized rainfall continues in southern and hilly regions, the broader trend points toward rising temperatures across the state. This shift marks the gradual onset of summer conditions.
Such patterns are typical during seasonal transitions, where short spells of rain coincide with an overall warming trend. As the days progress, dry and hotter conditions are expected to become more dominant across most parts of Tamil Nadu.
