Weather – Light Rain Forecast for Southern Tamil Nadu and Western Ghats

Weather – The India Meteorological Department has projected light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in select parts of southern Tamil Nadu and districts along the Western Ghats on Thursday. The change in weather is linked to a low-pressure circulation currently positioned over the southern peninsula, which is influencing atmospheric conditions across the region.

Low-Pressure System Influencing Southern Districts

According to a statement issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, prevailing conditions in the upper atmosphere are favourable for scattered rain activity. The system is expected to generate brief spells of showers, particularly in districts situated near the Western Ghats and southern coastal belts.

Officials clarified that rainfall is likely to remain light and isolated. Only one or two locations in the affected districts may experience showers, rather than widespread precipitation. At present, there is no indication of heavy or prolonged rainfall.

Rainfall Likely to Continue Over the Next Two Days

Weather experts have indicated that similar atmospheric conditions may persist through the coming days. Light rain is expected to continue at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts tomorrow and the following day.

Although the intensity of rainfall is not expected to escalate significantly, the department has advised caution in hilly and vulnerable areas. Thunderstorms accompanied by brief gusty winds could develop during rain spells, particularly in elevated terrains. Residents in such locations have been urged to remain attentive to official advisories.

Chennai to Witness Partly Cloudy Skies

In Chennai, the outlook remains relatively stable. The city is likely to experience partly cloudy skies over the next two days. The forecast does not suggest any major rainfall activity for the State capital during this period.

However, light mist may form in isolated pockets during the early morning hours. This could lead to minor visibility concerns in certain suburban stretches, especially around dawn. Commuters are advised to exercise caution while travelling during early hours.

Temperature and Humidity Levels

Daytime temperatures across Tamil Nadu are expected to hover around normal seasonal averages. Cloud cover in several areas may help moderate heat levels slightly, though humidity is likely to remain noticeable. The combination of moisture in the air and intermittent cloud formation could create a warm but manageable atmosphere in most districts.

Meteorologists have noted that while the current system is relatively weak, continuous monitoring is underway. Any intensification or shift in the low-pressure circulation will be communicated through updated weather bulletins.

For now, authorities do not foresee any severe weather developments. Nevertheless, residents, particularly those in hill districts and rain-prone zones, are encouraged to stay updated through official channels and take basic precautions during thunderstorms.

The department reiterated that forecasts are subject to change depending on atmospheric developments over the southern peninsula. Further advisories will be issued if rainfall patterns strengthen or expand to additional areas.
