Weather –  The India Meteorological Department has indicated a shift in weather patterns across Tamil Nadu, with rainfall activity expected to remain concentrated in specific southern districts while northern regions are likely to stay largely dry.

Rainfall Expected in Western Ghats Regions

According to the latest forecast, parts of southern Tamil Nadu, particularly the hill regions of Virudhunagar, Theni, and Dindigul districts, may receive significant rainfall on Monday. Weather officials have pointed out that these elevated areas could witness heavy showers at isolated locations, especially during the daytime hours.

In addition to these districts, areas situated along the Western Ghats are expected to experience light to moderate rain. These showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional lightning, which could briefly intensify weather conditions in localized pockets.

Dry Conditions to Continue in Northern Districts

While southern regions prepare for rainfall, the situation in northern Tamil Nadu is expected to remain quite different. Most areas, including Chennai and nearby districts, are likely to see little to no rainfall activity throughout the day. Puducherry is also expected to experience similar dry conditions.

Weather authorities have clarified that there is no strong system currently influencing rainfall in these northern parts, resulting in clear to partly cloudy skies and relatively stable conditions.

Temperature Rise Likely in Northern Tamil Nadu

Alongside dry weather, a gradual increase in daytime temperatures has been predicted for northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Meteorologists expect maximum temperatures to rise by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours.

This increase could make daytime conditions warmer than usual, especially in urban areas where heat retention is higher. In contrast, southern districts are not expected to see any major temperature fluctuations, with weather conditions remaining comparatively steady.

Chennai to Experience Warm and Humid Day

In Chennai, the forecast suggests partly cloudy skies throughout the day. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 37°C and 38°C, while minimum temperatures may settle between 27°C and 28°C.

The combination of high temperatures and humidity is likely to make the weather feel warmer for residents. Although no rainfall is expected, the cloud cover may provide brief relief from direct sunlight at times.

No Major Concerns for Coastal Activities

Despite rainfall predictions in certain inland districts, the weather department has not issued any specific warnings for fishermen operating along the Tamil Nadu coastline. Sea conditions are expected to remain stable, allowing routine fishing activities to continue without significant disruption.

However, authorities continue to monitor any potential changes that could affect coastal weather in the coming days.

Advisory for Residents and Travellers

Officials have advised people living in hilly regions to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to sudden weather changes or water accumulation. Heavy rainfall in elevated zones can sometimes lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility.

Travellers heading towards the Western Ghats districts are encouraged to stay informed through local weather updates. Keeping track of advisories can help avoid unnecessary risks during changing weather conditions.

The meteorological department is closely observing the evolving situation and will provide updates if there are any notable developments in the forecast.
