Weather – Fog and Moderate Rain to Persist Across Tamil Nadu
Weather – The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that early morning fog will continue to blanket Chennai and several adjoining districts, while scattered rainfall is expected to affect different parts of Tamil Nadu in the coming days.

Moderate Rain Likely in Southern and Northern Districts
In its latest bulletin, the weather office said a low-pressure system that developed over the Bay of Bengal has gradually weakened. Although the system has lost intensity, its lingering influence, combined with favourable atmospheric conditions, is expected to trigger moderate rainfall at isolated locations in southern Tamil Nadu and certain northern districts on Wednesday.
Light to moderate showers are also likely in Puducherry and the Karaikal region. Officials noted that rainfall activity across Tamil Nadu may continue until March 1, depending on local weather developments.
Meteorologists explained that shifting wind directions and moisture flow from the sea are contributing to the unsettled conditions. These factors are creating cloud formation conducive to sporadic rainfall in several areas.
Fog Alert for Chennai and Eight Districts
Alongside the rain forecast, early morning mist is expected to affect Chennai and neighbouring districts, including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore and Ranipet. The fog is likely to form during the early hours on Wednesday and Thursday.
Officials have cautioned that visibility may drop in certain interior areas and on highways during dawn. Motorists have been advised to drive with care, particularly on long-distance routes and stretches prone to mist formation.
The fog conditions are being attributed to moisture accumulation and relatively calm wind patterns during night-time and early morning hours.
Day Temperatures Set to Rise
Even as parts of the state prepare for showers and misty mornings, daytime heat is expected to increase. The weather department has indicated that maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal until February 28.
This combination of warmer afternoons and cooler, foggy mornings highlights a transitional weather phase in the region. Such fluctuations are common during seasonal shifts, when both moisture-laden winds and rising surface temperatures interact.
Advisory for Residents and Farmers
Weather experts have observed that although the earlier low-pressure area has weakened, local convection processes and available moisture could still lead to scattered showers in isolated pockets. As conditions may vary between districts, authorities have urged residents and farmers to keep track of updated forecasts.
In rain-dependent agricultural zones, farmers have been encouraged to plan field activities cautiously and stay informed through official advisories. Urban residents, especially commuters, have also been advised to account for potential delays caused by reduced visibility or intermittent rain.
The meteorological department has assured that it will continue monitoring developments closely and issue timely updates as required. With fluctuating weather patterns expected over the next few days, officials stress the importance of staying informed through verified sources.
