Weather – Delhi experienced warmer conditions than usual on Sunday, as temperatures rose noticeably above seasonal averages. The rise in temperature came even as the weather department indicated a change in conditions for the following day.

Temperatures Climb Across Key Monitoring Stations

According to data released by the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature on Sunday stood at 19.8 degrees Celsius, also higher than normal by 1.7 degrees. Several weather stations across the capital reported similar trends, reflecting a consistent increase in daytime heat.

Safdarjung, considered the city’s primary weather station, recorded a high of 36.2 degrees Celsius. Other areas also saw elevated readings, with Palam registering 35.7 degrees, Lodhi Road at 35.1 degrees, the Ridge at 35.3 degrees, and Ayanagar touching 35.6 degrees Celsius. These figures indicate that most parts of Delhi experienced a warmer-than-usual day.

Rain and Gusty Winds Expected to Bring Relief

The weather department has forecast a shift in conditions for Monday, offering some respite from the rising heat. A yellow alert has been issued, indicating the likelihood of light rainfall accompanied by gusty winds during the afternoon and evening hours.

Meteorologists expect temperatures to drop slightly, with the maximum likely to settle around 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may hover near 21 degrees Celsius. The anticipated rain and wind activity could help moderate the temperature and provide temporary relief from the recent heat.

Humidity levels in the city were recorded at 33 percent at 5:30 pm on Sunday, suggesting relatively dry conditions during the day. However, moisture levels may increase slightly with the expected weather changes.

Air Quality Remains in Moderate Range

While temperatures remained on the higher side, Delhi’s air quality stayed within the ‘moderate’ category. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board showed an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 194 at 4 pm on Sunday.

An AQI reading between 101 and 200 is classified as ‘moderate,’ indicating that air quality is acceptable but may pose minor health concerns for sensitive individuals. For reference, AQI levels between zero and 50 are considered ‘good,’ while readings from 51 to 100 fall under ‘satisfactory.’ Higher levels beyond 200 are categorized as ‘poor’ or worse, depending on the range.

Seasonal Transition Reflected in Weather Patterns

The recent rise in temperatures, followed by the forecast of light rain and winds, reflects a transitional phase in Delhi’s weather. Such fluctuations are common during this period as the city moves from cooler conditions toward the onset of summer.

Weather experts suggest that while short spells of rain may bring temporary relief, temperatures are likely to gradually increase in the coming weeks. Residents are advised to stay updated with daily forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially during warmer afternoons.
