Uttarakhand – Chief Minister Visits Injured After Himachal Roadways Bus Tragedy
Uttarakhand – Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday visited Dehradun’s Doon Hospital to check on passengers injured in a tragic road accident involving a Himachal Roadways bus. The Chief Minister met several victims undergoing treatment and reviewed the medical arrangements being provided at the facility.
During his visit, Dhami spoke directly with doctors and hospital staff, instructing them to ensure that every injured passenger receives complete and uninterrupted medical care. He also interacted with patients and their families, offering reassurance and seeking detailed updates on their condition.
Fatal Accident in Kalsi Region
The accident occurred on Tuesday in the Kalsi area of Uttarakhand when a bus operated by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation plunged into a deep gorge near Kwanu village. Officials said the vehicle lost control while passing through the Dunga Bainsi stretch, a hilly and narrow route known for difficult driving conditions.
At least three passengers lost their lives in the incident, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity. Emergency response teams, along with local residents, assisted in rescue operations, helping pull survivors from the wreckage and transport them to nearby medical facilities.
Bus Route and Passenger Details
According to transport officials, the bus was traveling from Chaupal in Himachal Pradesh to Paonta Sahib, passing through Uttarakhand at the time of the accident. Around 32 passengers were on board when the vehicle veered off the road and fell into the gorge.
Authorities are continuing to assess the cause of the accident, including road conditions and mechanical factors. A detailed investigation has been initiated to determine whether safety lapses or environmental challenges contributed to the crash.
Himachal Pradesh Government Responds
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the accident. He contacted senior district officials soon after the incident to gather information and ensure that immediate support was extended to affected families.
Sukhu directed the Deputy Commissioner to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the deceased and to ensure that injured passengers receive the best possible treatment. He also stated that helicopters should be deployed if required to evacuate critically injured patients from difficult terrain.
The Chief Minister offered condolences to the families who lost loved ones and said prayers for the departed souls. He emphasized that the state government stands with the victims during this difficult time.
Dhami Reviews Policy Decision Separately
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Dhami also addressed reporters on an unrelated policy matter, announcing that the Uttarakhand government has formally approved an equal pay for equal work policy for employees of Uttarakhand Purv Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited.
The move aims to address long-standing concerns over wage disparities and ensure fair compensation for employees performing similar roles. Dhami said the government order has already been issued, removing any uncertainty surrounding the policy.
Focus on Education and Social Equity
While speaking to the media, Dhami also referred to recent legislative steps taken to improve minority education in the state. He said the government’s objective is to ensure equal access to education for all sections of society.
According to the Chief Minister, these measures reflect the administration’s broader commitment to social fairness, employee welfare, and inclusive development across Uttarakhand.
