Following a precipitous drop in temperature in Tamil Nadu’s mountainous regions—Ooty recorded a minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius—the alarm was issued. The rapid decline in the minimum temperature has raised fears about ground frost, even while the maximum temperature in Nilgiris remained above average.

Chennai’s weather forecast calls for a hazy and cloudy week.

Early in the morning, Chennai’s weather was dry with overcast sky and warm winter temperatures, but the IMD weather prediction predicts a high likelihood of foggy conditions and light rain in the future.

Chennai is predicted to have partly overcast sky with moderate winter temperatures in the mornings and evenings until December 24, according to the IMD’s weather prediction bulletin published on December 19.

Some parts of Chennai are predicted to see light rain, and partly overcast sky will continue.
