Incident Reported From Campus Residence

According to officials, the incident came to light when the Kishangarh police station received a call around 8:30 a.m. about a possible emergency inside the New Vindhyachal Apartment complex located within the IIT Delhi campus. A police team immediately reached the location to investigate the situation.

Upon entering the apartment, authorities found the student hanging from a ceiling fan using a stole. The young man was a first-year student enrolled at the institute and was residing in the apartment with his mother.

Medical personnel from the IIT Delhi hospital were called to the scene. After examining the student, the attending doctor confirmed that he had already passed away by the time medical assistance arrived.

Family Background and Last Contact

During the initial investigation, police learned that the student’s mother had recently traveled to her hometown on March 10. She reportedly last spoke with her son over the phone around 11 p.m. on March 11.

Concern arose the following morning when repeated phone calls to the student went unanswered. Another resident of the building then attempted to check on him. With assistance from the campus security staff, the apartment door was opened, leading to the discovery of the student.

Officials said there were no immediate signs of forced entry or disturbance inside the room.

No Suicide Note Recovered

Police officials confirmed that no suicide note was found at the scene. The student’s father also informed investigators that he does not suspect any foul play in connection with his son’s death.

The body was later transported to Safdarjung Hospital for a post-mortem examination. After the completion of legal procedures, the remains were handed over to the family.

Authorities stated that the post-mortem will help determine further details related to the circumstances of the death.

Institute Expresses Condolences

In a statement issued by IIT Delhi, the institute expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended support to the student’s family during this difficult time.

The institute said it stands with the bereaved family and is providing them with all necessary assistance. Campus authorities have also been coordinating with law enforcement officials as part of the ongoing investigation.

Such incidents often deeply affect the campus community, and institutions typically provide counseling and support services for students and staff following tragic events.

Police Begin Formal Investigation

Following the incident, a security officer from IIT Delhi submitted a written complaint requesting legal action. Based on this complaint, police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to abetment of suicide.

Investigators have begun examining all aspects of the case to determine whether any external factors may have contributed to the student’s death.

Police officials said statements from individuals connected to the student, including family members and residents of the apartment complex, may be recorded as part of the investigation.

Authorities emphasized that the inquiry is ongoing and that further details will be shared once the investigation progresses.
