Swift Response Prevents Potential Disaster

According to official information, the attack took place around 2:00 a.m. and is believed to have been carried out by insurgents linked to ULFA (Independent). The assault left behind several unexploded explosive devices, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) rounds, raising serious concerns about civilian safety in the surrounding area.

Security forces reacted immediately to the threat. A specialised Bomb Disposal Unit, supported by Red Shield Sappers and Assam Rifles personnel, was deployed without delay. The affected zone was quickly sealed off to prevent any accidental exposure to the hazardous materials.

Controlled Operation Ensures Civilian Safety

The bomb disposal team followed strict safety procedures while handling the unexploded ordnance. After carefully assessing the situation, the explosives were transported to a secure location away from residential areas. There, they were safely neutralised through controlled measures.

Officials noted that the entire operation was conducted with precision and discipline, minimising risks and ensuring no harm came to civilians or property. The coordinated effort between multiple security agencies played a crucial role in averting a potentially serious incident.

Injuries Reported in Militant Strike

In the aftermath of the attack, at least four Assam Police personnel sustained injuries. While their condition has not been officially detailed, authorities confirmed that the injured were provided necessary medical attention. The incident highlights the continued threat posed by insurgent groups operating in parts of the Northeast.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly criticised the incident, calling it unacceptable. Speaking during a visit to Haflong, where he was campaigning in support of a political candidate, he confirmed that a joint operation involving the Army and state police had been launched to track down those responsible.

He expressed confidence that the perpetrators would soon be identified and arrested, emphasising the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

Focus on Peace and Regional Development

The Chief Minister also pointed to the progress made in regions like Dima Hasao, attributing recent improvements in peace and infrastructure to sustained governance efforts. He reiterated that such acts of violence would not derail the development initiatives underway in the state.

Continued Vigilance by Security Forces

Security agencies remain on high alert following the incident. The Indian Army and allied forces have reinforced their presence in sensitive areas to prevent further threats. Officials stated that surveillance and intelligence efforts have been intensified to counter insurgent activities effectively.

The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in ensuring stability in the region. However, the prompt and coordinated response by security forces demonstrated preparedness and commitment to safeguarding lives.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activity, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security.
