Security – DGP Nalin Prabhat Reviews Counter-Terror Operations in Awantipora
Security – Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Saturday conducted a detailed review of counter-terror operations and the overall law and order situation in the Awantipora police district.
The senior police officer visited the District Police Office in Awantipora where he held a comprehensive meeting with top officers to evaluate the current security environment. The review focused on ongoing anti-terror activities as well as measures being implemented to maintain stability in the region.
Senior officers participate in detailed security meeting
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Among those present were Special Director General of Police for Coordination S.J.M. Gillani, Inspector General of Police for the Kashmir Zone V.K. Birdi, and Deputy Inspector General for South Kashmir Range Javid Iqbal Matoo.
Local officers from the Awantipora police district also participated in the discussion. These included the Senior Superintendent of Police Awantipora, Additional Superintendent of Police Awantipora, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, and Deputy Superintendents from the Special Operations Group.
Officials said the gathering aimed to review the security framework in detail and assess ongoing operational strategies across the district.
Focus on counter-terror strategies and intelligence-based operations
During the meeting, the police chief examined both kinetic and non-kinetic counter-terror strategies currently being implemented in the area. These operations involve direct security actions as well as intelligence gathering, surveillance, and preventive measures aimed at disrupting militant activities.
Officers briefed the DGP about ongoing operations, security deployments, and intelligence coordination within Awantipora and nearby areas of South Kashmir.
The discussion also focused on improving coordination among different units and strengthening information-sharing mechanisms to support effective policing and security management.
Measures to address drug abuse and criminal activities
Apart from counter-terror operations, the review also examined efforts to tackle drug trafficking and other forms of crime in the police district.
Officials informed the DGP about ongoing campaigns to control narcotics supply and prevent the spread of drug abuse, which has emerged as a growing concern in several parts of the region.
The police leadership discussed strategies aimed at strengthening enforcement measures and enhancing monitoring of criminal networks involved in illegal activities.
The DGP stressed that strict action must be taken against individuals involved in drug-related offenses and other unlawful acts that threaten public safety.
Emphasis on vigilance and disciplined policing
During his interaction with officers, the police chief highlighted the importance of maintaining high levels of vigilance and professionalism in day-to-day operations.
He urged officers and personnel to remain proactive while dealing with security challenges and to ensure that policing remains intelligence-driven and coordinated.
According to officials, the DGP also encouraged field officers to continue strengthening their engagement with local communities while carrying out security responsibilities.
He acknowledged the efforts of police officers and personnel working in the region and urged them to stay focused on maintaining peace and stability.
Security reviews conducted across the Valley
Senior police leadership has been actively monitoring the situation across the Kashmir Valley since early March following protests that had taken place in several areas.
The DGP and other top officers have been visiting different districts over the past week to assess conditions on the ground and review security arrangements with local police units.
Officials said these visits were aimed at ensuring effective coordination among security agencies and maintaining normalcy in sensitive areas.
Restrictions lifted as normal life resumes
Authorities confirmed that restrictions imposed in certain parts of the Valley were lifted after several days once the situation stabilized.
Following the removal of restrictions, normal activities resumed across the region. Markets reopened, public transport operated normally, and daily life returned to routine without any reports of major incidents.
Officials said security forces will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that peace and order are maintained in the coming days.
