RoadAccident – Two Fatal Crashes in Delhi Spark Probe and Appeal
RoadAccident – A six-year-old girl lost her life following a collision between an electric rickshaw and a car in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area on Tuesday, police confirmed. The incident has prompted an investigation as authorities examine the circumstances leading to the crash.

Child Succumbs to Injuries After Janakpuri Collision
According to the Delhi Police, a Police Control Room call was received from Mata Chanan Devi Hospital on the morning of February 17, informing officers about the accident. The child, who had sustained critical injuries, was later referred to Max Hospital in Dwarka, where doctors declared her dead during treatment. A postmortem examination was subsequently conducted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
Police officials said the girl had been travelling with her grandmother, Mercy Xavier, in an e-rickshaw when the vehicle collided with a car near the Janakpuri Fire Station. The impact reportedly caused the e-rickshaw to overturn, leaving both passengers injured. The grandmother is currently undergoing medical care.
An FIR has been registered in connection with the case. Investigators have seized the car involved in the accident. The driver, identified as Sanjeev, was apprehended and later bound down as per legal procedure. Officers said further inquiries are underway to establish liability and assess whether traffic violations contributed to the crash.
Separate Dwarka Crash Claims Young Motorcyclist’s Life
In a separate incident earlier this month, a 23-year-old man died in a road accident in Dwarka after a car allegedly driven by a juvenile without a valid driving licence collided with his motorcycle. The accident occurred near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in the Dwarka South area.
Police said they received a PCR call at approximately 11:57 am reporting a serious collision. When officers reached the site, they found three damaged vehicles, including a motorcycle and two cars. The motorcyclist, later identified as Sahil Dhaneshra, was found unresponsive and was declared dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings suggest that the car struck the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction before crashing into a parked vehicle. An FIR was registered at Dwarka South Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities confirmed that the postmortem examination of the deceased has been completed and the report obtained.
A taxi driver injured during the incident was shifted to IGI Hospital for treatment. His statement has been recorded, and police are awaiting final medical assessment.
Juvenile Driver Granted Interim Bail
The accused driver in the Dwarka case was found to be a minor and without a driving licence. He was taken into custody at the scene and later produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which initially sent him to an Observation Home.
On February 10, 2026, the Board granted the juvenile interim bail, citing his upcoming Class 10 board examinations. The decision has drawn public attention after the victim’s mother expressed her grief and sought accountability through social media posts, calling for justice for her son.
Police officials stated that all vehicles involved in the crash have been seized and subjected to mechanical inspection. Relevant documentation has been verified, and CCTV footage from nearby locations has been collected to aid the investigation.
Both cases remain under active investigation as authorities continue to review evidence and witness statements. The recent incidents have once again highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety, responsible driving, and adherence to traffic laws in the national capital.
