Road Accident – Two Arrested After Hit-and-Run in Mallapur
Road Accident – Two young men have been taken into custody following a hit-and-run incident that left a 45-year-old man seriously injured in Mallapur, within the jurisdiction of the Kushaiguda police station in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The arrests were made after police registered a case based on a complaint filed earlier this week.

Collision at Mallapur X Road
According to police officials, the incident occurred on the evening of February 9 at around 8 pm. Panuganti Raju, 20, was travelling with his colleagues Vijay Kumar and M. Sathish from Mallapur towards Rampally. When their vehicle reached Mallapur X Road, another car approaching from the same direction allegedly rammed into their vehicle from behind.
Investigators said the driver responsible for the collision did not stop after the crash and instead sped away from the scene. The sudden impact caused panic among the occupants of the affected car, who decided to pursue the fleeing vehicle in an attempt to hold the driver accountable.
Chase Ends Near NTR Statue Signal
The chase continued for a short distance before the suspect vehicle was intercepted near the NTR Statue Signal. Police identified the driver as Uppari Mahesh, aged 23. During the confrontation that followed, tensions escalated.
Officials stated that when M. Sathish, one of the passengers in the damaged car, attempted to prevent the accused from escaping, Mahesh allegedly drove the vehicle forward, running over him. Sathish sustained severe injuries in the incident.
He was immediately rushed to Srikara Raghavendra Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have described his condition as serious but stable, according to preliminary information shared with investigators.
Police Register Case and Make Arrests
The Kushaiguda police received a formal complaint from Panuganti Raju at approximately 8:50 am on Monday. In his petition, Raju detailed the sequence of events, including the rear-end collision and the subsequent events near the traffic signal.
Based on the complaint and initial evidence, police registered a case of rash and negligent driving, along with charges related to causing grievous injury. After identifying the suspects, officers arrested Uppari Mahesh and his associate, Anagandula Tarun, aged 22.
Police sources confirmed that both accused were produced before a local court on February 13. The court remanded them to judicial custody pending further investigation.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are continuing to gather evidence, including witness statements and any available surveillance footage from the surrounding area. Officers are also examining the vehicles involved to determine the exact sequence of events and assess the extent of damage caused during the collision and subsequent altercation.
A senior officer from Kushaiguda police station stated that strict action would be taken in cases involving reckless driving, particularly when such actions endanger public safety. The police have urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and exercise caution while driving, especially on busy urban roads.
Incidents of rash driving remain a serious concern in several parts of the district, with law enforcement agencies emphasizing the need for responsible road behaviour. Officials reiterated that fleeing the scene of an accident is a punishable offence and can result in severe legal consequences.
As the investigation progresses, further details are expected to emerge regarding the circumstances that led to the confrontation and the injuries sustained. Meanwhile, the injured man continues to receive medical care, and police have assured that the case will be pursued in accordance with the law.
