Religion – Hyderabad Woman Booked Over Alleged Offensive WhatsApp Posts
Religion – A woman living in Kondapur, Hyderabad, has been booked by the police following allegations that she shared objectionable content on WhatsApp targeting Hindu deities. Authorities said the case was registered after a complaint claimed that her posts hurt religious sentiments and could potentially disturb public harmony.

Complaint Filed Over Social Media Activity
The complaint was lodged earlier this week by Vishal Kumar, a private employee, who raised concerns about messages and status updates shared by the woman in a residential apartment group. According to the complaint, the content included remarks considered disrespectful towards Hindu religious figures.
Kumar stated that he became aware of the situation after receiving a phone call from an acquaintance on April 2, informing him about the posts. He subsequently reviewed the content and decided to approach the police, citing concerns over its potential impact on communal harmony.
Police Register Case Under BNS Provisions
Following the complaint, law enforcement officials registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to promoting enmity, deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings, and statements that could incite unrest.
Officials confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to examine the nature of the content and the intent behind the posts. Authorities are also reviewing digital evidence, including WhatsApp messages and status updates, as part of the inquiry.
Additional Allegations Surface
Apart from the social media posts, the complaint also refers to earlier incidents involving the same individual. It alleges that she had previously shared a message in the apartment group in response to an image of a cow, which some residents found inappropriate.
Police sources indicated that CCTV footage from the residential complex is being examined. The footage reportedly shows a woman damaging property, including breaking pots and throwing away Tulsi plants, which hold religious significance in many Hindu households.
Concerns Over Public Order
Authorities noted that the complaint emphasized the broader implications of such actions, stating they could hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community and potentially disrupt peace in the area. Officials are treating the matter with caution, given the sensitivity surrounding religious issues.
Law enforcement representatives have urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. They also reiterated that any grievances related to social media content should be addressed through proper legal channels rather than escalating tensions within the community.
Investigation Underway
Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the case. They are currently in the process of collecting statements from witnesses and reviewing all available evidence before taking further action.
Officials added that digital communication platforms, while widely used for social interaction, must be handled responsibly. They emphasized that content which may be perceived as offensive or inflammatory can have serious legal consequences.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to determine whether the alleged actions were intentional and whether they meet the legal threshold for prosecution under the registered sections.
