Purvodaya : Vision Accelerates Development and Integration of Tripura and Northeast
Purvodaya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated that the government’s Purvodaya vision is emerging as a major force behind the economic and social transformation of eastern India, with a strong and visible impact on the Northeastern states, including Tripura. In a message shared on the occasion of Tripura’s Statehood Day, the Prime Minister highlighted how focused governance and long-term planning are reshaping the region’s future and strengthening its connection with the national mainstream.

Bridging Historical Gaps with National Development
For decades, the Northeastern region experienced a sense of geographical and emotional distance from the rest of the country. According to the Prime Minister, this reality affected opportunities, infrastructure growth, and public confidence. The present approach, however, aims to bridge these gaps by improving connectivity, governance outreach, and people-centric development. The emphasis has been on ensuring that citizens feel included in India’s growth journey, not isolated from it.
Double Engine Governance Driving State Transformation
The Prime Minister underlined the role of coordinated efforts between the central government and the Tripura state administration under Chief Minister Manik Saha. Over the past eight years, this collaboration has focused on policy execution, infrastructure creation, and institutional reforms. These efforts align with the public mandate expressed in the 2018 and 2023 state elections, reflecting popular support for stability and development-oriented governance.
Infrastructure Expansion and Ease of Living
A key pillar of Tripura’s recent progress has been the strengthening of both physical and social infrastructure. Road networks, urban amenities, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions have received sustained attention. These initiatives have directly contributed to improving the ease of living for residents across urban and rural areas. Central government schemes have played a crucial role by delivering measurable benefits and expanding access to essential services.
Targeted Development for Tribal Communities
Special focus has been placed on inclusive growth, particularly for tribal populations. Newly approved components under existing Special Development Packages are expected to generate long-term socio-economic benefits. These measures aim to improve livelihoods, access to education, and community infrastructure, ensuring that growth reaches all sections of society and reduces regional disparities.
Boost to Connectivity, Trade, and Tourism
Connectivity has emerged as a major growth driver for Tripura. The inauguration of the integrated terminal building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala in 2022 significantly enhanced air connectivity. Improved transport links have encouraged commerce, tourism, and business travel, positioning Tripura as an important gateway to the Northeast and neighboring regions.
Economic Growth and Investment Reforms
Tripura’s economy has shown steady growth, supported by reforms focused on compliance reduction and deregulation. These steps are designed to attract private investment and create employment opportunities, especially for the youth. By simplifying procedures and promoting ease of doing business, the state government has sent positive signals to entrepreneurs and industry stakeholders.
Sustainable Agriculture and Farmer Initiatives
The Prime Minister also praised Tripura’s farmers for setting an example in environmental responsibility. The state is among the leading Northeastern regions in implementing the PM-KUSUM scheme, promoting solar-powered agriculture. Additionally, the growing adoption of natural farming practices reflects a shift toward sustainable agriculture. Targeted support for weavers, mulberry cultivators, and pineapple farmers is strengthening rural livelihoods and ensuring stable income sources.
Peace, Stability, and a New Beginning
Tripura’s journey has not been without challenges. In the past, parts of the state were affected by insurgency and unrest, limiting development and youth aspirations. The Prime Minister noted that the people have consciously chosen peace and progress. The 2024 Peace Accord with the National Liberation Front of Tripura and the All Tripura Tiger Force has marked a turning point, creating a stable environment for growth and social harmony.
Cultural Heritage and Future Vision
Referring to his visit to Tripura in September 2025, the Prime Minister recalled offering prayers at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Gomati district and reviewing development work at the temple complex. He expressed confidence that cultural heritage, combined with modern infrastructure and governance, will guide Tripura toward a brighter future inspired by the vision of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
