Officially, this step was described as part of an orientation workshop to educate members about the functioning of India’s richest civic body. However, Sanjay Raut questioned the timing and intent behind this move, suggesting that it reflected insecurity rather than preparation.
Raut sarcastically asked why corporators needed to be moved to secure locations when their own alliance was part of the ruling government. He remarked that such actions give the impression that political players fear internal instability more than opposition pressure.

According to Raut, the seats won by the Shinde-led Shiv Sena are strategically crucial for the Bharatiya Janata Party in its attempt to install a mayor from the ruling alliance. He claimed that the BJP was also considering relocating its corporators, a move that further indicates the fragile nature of post-election unity.

Raut also reminded observers that the Indian National Congress was founded in Mumbai and that the Quit India movement was launched from the city. According to him, these historical facts highlight Mumbai’s deep-rooted political legacy, which predates the existence of the BJP.

Raut also made a pointed comment regarding Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis receiving a grand welcome in Switzerland during the World Economic Forum. He remarked sarcastically that the reception made it seem as though Fadnavis was on a path to becoming prime minister. At the same time, he added that he would feel proud if a Marathi leader were to occupy such a position in the future, blending criticism with regional pride.

Dismissing rumors of talks between Uddhav Thackeray and Devendra Fadnavis, Raut alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was attempting to engineer political splits elsewhere as well. He claimed that Shinde was trying to destabilize the Bharatiya Janata Party’s corporators in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation and could attempt a similar strategy in Mumbai.
Raut reiterated his charge that Shinde had earlier split the Shiv Sena with the backing of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, suggesting that such political engineering could once again come into play.
