Politics – Two members of the Indian Youth Congress were released from Tilak Marg police station after being detained for demonstrating during the AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. However, the Delhi Police confirmed that one more protester remains in custody, while search operations are underway to trace others allegedly involved in the incident.
Police Recover Protest Material, Continue Search
According to officials, T-shirts and placards used during the demonstration were recovered from a vehicle linked to Youth Congress leader Krishna Hari. Investigators stated that these materials were allegedly used at the summit venue during the protest. Law enforcement authorities are continuing raids in connection with the case, aiming to identify and apprehend individuals who left the site after the demonstration began.
Police sources indicated that further questioning of those detained is necessary to establish the full sequence of events and to determine the roles of additional participants.
Court Denies Bail, Grants Five-Day Custody
On Saturday, the Patiala House Court declined bail pleas filed by four arrested Youth Congress workers. The court ordered that the accused be remanded to police custody for five days to facilitate further investigation.
The four individuals taken into custody have been identified as Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Ajay Kumar, and Narasimha Yadav. Investigators had requested five days of custodial interrogation, arguing that it was essential to identify and locate other individuals who allegedly fled the scene.
Delhi Police told the court that the protest occurred in the presence of international delegates attending the summit. Officials claimed that certain slogans raised during the demonstration were objectionable and warranted detailed investigation.
Defence Argues Protest Was Peaceful
Counsel representing the accused maintained that the demonstration was an exercise of democratic rights. The defence argued that the protest was peaceful and that no evidence has surfaced showing violence or physical disruption at the venue. Lawyers also informed the court that the accused are office bearers of a political organisation and possess educational qualifications, asserting that they have cooperated with authorities.
The legal proceedings come amid heightened political exchanges over the incident.
Demonstration at AI Impact India Summit
The protest took place at Bharat Mandapam, where the AI Impact India Summit was being held. Members of the Indian Youth Congress removed their shirts as a symbolic gesture of dissent. The shirts displayed the slogan “Compromised PM,” reflecting their criticism of the government.
In a public statement issued earlier, the Indian Youth Congress said the protest was aimed at highlighting concerns regarding the Prime Minister’s stance at the summit. The organisation described the demonstration as a form of political expression.
