Politics – TDP MP Denies Role in Nellore Boat Disappearance Case
Politics – A senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has firmly rejected allegations linking him to the disappearance of boats in Nellore district, stating he is willing to step down from both his parliamentary position and political life if any credible evidence proves his involvement.

Rajya Sabha member Beeda Masthan Rao addressed the media on Sunday, dismissing the accusations as baseless and politically motivated. Speaking from his residence, he claimed that certain rivals are deliberately spreading misinformation to damage his reputation. Emphasizing his long-standing association with coastal communities, he noted that he has maintained close relationships with fishermen for over 40 years and questioned why his name was being dragged into the issue.
Claims of Political Conspiracy
Rao suggested that the controversy is part of a calculated attempt to target him. He said there is no logical reason to connect him with the incident and described the allegations as fabricated. According to him, such narratives are often used in politics to discredit individuals ahead of critical developments.
He also clarified that he has not been in contact with a person named Thotaiah, who is reportedly linked to the case, for at least six months. Referring to certain videos circulating on social media, Rao stated that his name appeared only after repeated questioning, implying that it was introduced without substantial basis.
Willingness to Share Financial Records
In an effort to clear his name, Rao said he is prepared to disclose his financial records. He challenged anyone to present proof of any monetary transactions connected to the incident, whether from his personal accounts or those of his associates. He maintained that transparency would demonstrate his complete lack of involvement.
Background of Long-Standing Coastal Disputes
Providing context, Rao pointed out that such incidents are not new and are often rooted in long-standing maritime disputes involving Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. He explained that tensions frequently arise when fishing vessels cross into waters claimed by another region.
According to his account, four mechanised boats had reportedly entered Andhra Pradesh waters and were fishing in areas traditionally used by local fishermen along the Nellore coast. This led to local fishermen detaining the boats and holding them at a fishing harbour as part of a dispute resolution process.
Controversy Over Boat Release
Rao further stated that the situation escalated when the detained boats were allegedly released overnight without informing either government authorities or local fishing communities. This unexpected development, he said, triggered renewed tensions and confusion among those involved.
He added that such an operation could not have taken place without local assistance, reinforcing his claim that the issue is being misrepresented and that he is being unfairly implicated.
Call for Independent Investigation
Maintaining his innocence, Rao urged both the central and state governments to establish a high-level inquiry into the matter. He emphasized the importance of a transparent investigation and suggested that its findings should be shared with all affected communities to help restore trust and prevent further disputes.
Reaffirming his stance, Rao described the allegations against him as completely unfounded and reiterated his readiness to face any inquiry.
