Politics – Modi Holds Key Chennai Strategy Meet Ahead of State Polls
Politics – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold an important meeting with senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Chennai on Saturday, focusing on preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The gathering is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s approach as it seeks to expand its presence in the state.

Focus on Tamil Nadu Election Strategy
The meeting, scheduled at a prominent hotel in Guindy around 11 a.m., will centre on strengthening organisational efforts, refining campaign strategies, and improving coordination with alliance partners. Party leaders are likely to review past performance and identify areas where the BJP can enhance its electoral reach in Tamil Nadu.
Sources indicate that discussions will also include booth-level planning, outreach initiatives, and ways to connect more effectively with local voters. The leadership is expected to emphasise disciplined campaigning and unified messaging across the state.
Ongoing Campaign Activity in Puducherry
The strategy session comes at a time when political activity is intensifying in neighbouring Puducherry, where Assembly elections are set for April 9. The National Democratic Alliance, which includes the BJP along with its regional allies, is contesting the polls jointly.
On Friday, the Prime Minister actively participated in campaign efforts in Puducherry. After arriving in Chennai from New Delhi, he travelled by helicopter to the Union Territory, where he led a major roadshow in support of alliance candidates. The event attracted significant public attention and boosted the morale of party workers ahead of voting day.
Return to Chennai and Informal Interactions
Following the campaign कार्यक्रम in Puducherry, Modi returned to Chennai in the evening and stayed at a hotel in Guindy. During his stay, he held informal discussions with key BJP leaders and alliance representatives, reviewing the political landscape and ongoing campaign efforts.
These interactions are seen as part of a broader attempt to align party leadership and ensure smooth coordination between different stakeholders ahead of crucial elections.
Participation of Senior Leaders
Saturday’s meeting is expected to witness the presence of several prominent party figures, including Union ministers, national office-bearers, and state leadership. Among those attending are Piyush Goyal, Sudhakar Reddy, Arvind Menon, Nainar Nagenthran, L. Murugan, Pon Radhakrishnan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, K. Annamalai, and Vanathi Srinivasan.
K. Annamalai, who had been campaigning in Kerala, returned to Chennai specifically to take part in this session, underlining the importance attached to the meeting.
Emphasis on Grassroots Mobilisation
The Prime Minister is expected to encourage leaders to intensify efforts at the grassroots level and aim for improved results compared to previous elections. Strengthening local networks, increasing voter engagement, and ensuring effective communication are likely to be key themes of his address.
Party insiders suggest that there will be a strong push to build momentum in regions where the BJP has been working to expand its footprint.
No Public Events Scheduled in Chennai
The meeting is likely to continue until around noon, after which Modi is expected to remain at the hotel for some time. During this period, candidates contesting from Chennai constituencies and representatives of alliance parties may meet him.
Unlike earlier visits, where he addressed large public rallies in cities such as Chengalpattu, Madurai, and Tiruchy, this visit is focused primarily on internal discussions. No public roadshow or rally has been planned in Chennai during this phase of his tour.
The developments highlight the party’s efforts to consolidate its strategy in southern India as multiple elections approach.
