Decision Comes After Candidate Announcement

Kalaiselvi made the move to NTK during an event held in Valparai on Sunday. Her decision followed closely after AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami declared K. Singh as the party’s candidate for the Valparai reserved constituency. Despite the timing, she clarified that her exit from AIADMK was not influenced by the denial of an election ticket.

She addressed speculation directly, stating that her choice was rooted in personal dignity rather than political ambition. According to her, contesting elections was never the primary reason behind her association with the party.

Allegations of Neglect and Disrespect

Explaining her reasons in detail, Kalaiselvi said she felt increasingly sidelined within the AIADMK, particularly after the passing of her husband in June 2025. She claimed that the support she expected from party leaders during a difficult phase of her life was largely absent.

She specifically referred to senior leader S. P. Velumani, acknowledging his earlier role in supporting her husband’s political journey. However, she expressed disappointment over what she described as a lack of continued engagement and assistance after her husband’s death. She noted that once communication with key leaders reduced, others in the party also began distancing themselves.

Personal Experiences Within the Party

Kalaiselvi, who resides in Annur, shared that her experience within the party became increasingly uncomfortable over time. She alleged that she faced disrespect in several instances, including during local party meetings, where she felt her presence was not valued.

She also pointed to social factors, including caste-related concerns, as contributing to her dissatisfaction. While she did not elaborate extensively, she indicated that these issues played a role in shaping her decision to leave the party.

Shift Towards Naam Tamilar Katchi

Speaking about her new political path, Kalaiselvi said she joined NTK with the intention of contributing to public welfare. She expressed confidence in the party’s leadership under Seeman, stating that its focus on marginalized communities aligned with her own priorities.

She emphasized that her move was not driven by expectations of financial gain or political position. Instead, she described it as a step taken to preserve her self-respect and continue working for the people in a manner she finds meaningful.

Broader Political Context

Kalaiselvi’s transition comes at a time when regional parties in Tamil Nadu are actively strengthening their grassroots presence ahead of upcoming elections. Her entry into NTK may add to the party’s visibility in the Valparai region, especially given her association with a former विधायक.

While AIADMK has not officially responded to her statements, such developments often highlight internal challenges within established political organizations, particularly in managing leadership transitions and supporting members’ families.

Kalaiselvi concluded by reiterating that her decision was guided by personal values rather than political calculations. She stated that dignity and respect were central to her choice, and she hopes to continue public service through her new affiliation.
