Politics – Delhi Police Files FIR Over Alleged Ticket-for-Cash Deal
Politics – The Delhi Police has initiated a formal investigation following serious allegations of a cash-for-ticket arrangement involving individuals associated with the Congress party.

The case revolves around claims that a significant sum of money was demanded in exchange for securing a party ticket for the upcoming 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. According to available information, the complaint was filed by Suchitra, a former general secretary of the Haryana Mahila Congress, along with her husband, Gaurav.
Complaint Alleges Multi-Crore Payment for Election Ticket
The complainants have alleged that they paid approximately Rs 7 crore to ensure Suchitra’s candidature from the Congress party. The payments were reportedly made through a combination of bank transfers and cash transactions over a period of time. However, despite fulfilling the alleged financial demands, the promised party ticket was not granted.
Additionally, the complainants have stated that the money has not been returned, prompting them to seek legal recourse. The matter has now escalated into a formal police investigation.
FIR Registered by North Avenue Police Station
Acting on the complaint, the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report at the North Avenue police station. Officials confirmed that the case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including provisions related to cheating, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy.
Police sources indicated that the complaint had been submitted earlier this month, and preliminary inquiries were conducted before registering the FIR. Authorities have stated that all claims and supporting evidence are being carefully examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Names of Senior Leaders Mentioned in Allegations
Media reports suggest that several prominent individuals have been named in the complaint. These reportedly include senior Congress leader K C Venugopal, Member of Parliament K Suresh, and Shahab Khan. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding their involvement, and the investigation is still at an early stage.
The development has drawn attention due to the timing, as several states and one Union territory are heading towards assembly elections. The case could have wider political implications depending on the outcome of the probe.
Complainant Claims Cooperation from Authorities
Speaking to reporters, the complainant stated that all necessary details and evidence have been submitted to the Delhi Police. He expressed confidence that the investigation would bring clarity to the matter.
He also recounted an incident where he was stopped by police personnel while traveling to Delhi to stage a protest. According to him, officials assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the complaint, which led him to cooperate fully with the investigation process instead.
Police Emphasize Evidence-Based Investigation
Law enforcement officials have reiterated that the case will be handled strictly on the basis of evidence. They emphasized that no conclusions have been drawn yet and that statements, financial records, and other relevant materials are being reviewed.
The police have also indicated that further questioning and verification may take place in the coming days as part of standard procedure. No arrests or formal charges beyond the FIR have been announced so far.
Broader Context and Political Sensitivity
Allegations involving election tickets and financial transactions are particularly sensitive in the political landscape, especially ahead of major elections. Such cases often raise questions about internal party processes and transparency in candidate selection.
While the investigation is ongoing, political observers note that the outcome could influence public perception and electoral dynamics in the affected regions.
Authorities have urged caution against speculation and emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold based on verified facts.
