Politics – The Congress party has reiterated its commitment to strengthening women’s representation in legislatures, even as it raises concerns over proposed changes to the existing legal framework on reservations.

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor met members of the party’s women’s wing on Saturday and assured them of continued support on the issue. He said the party stands firmly behind efforts to expand opportunities for women in politics, particularly in relation to reservation in Parliament and state assemblies.

Party Stance on Women’s Reservation

Tharoor’s remarks come at a time when the Congress Working Committee has formally objected to certain amendments suggested by the central government. While the party maintains its longstanding position in favour of a 33 per cent reservation for women, it has questioned the manner in which the proposed changes are being introduced.
