Odisha: 8,000 Candidates Attend the Home Guard Recruitment Exam at the Odisha Airstrip, and the Video Goes Viral
Odisha: It has become a harsh reality of the country’s employment crisis that thousands of young people have gathered at an Odisha airfield, eagerly awaiting their turn for a government job. Massive numbers of candidates came before daybreak, queuing up in orderly queues to await their exams, despite the fact that there were only a few government jobs available.

The video, which was posted by NCIB headquarters, has gone viral and sparked public outrage about the lack of secure employment prospects. In the footage, thousands of applicants are shown silently waiting for the test to begin while sitting in long, straight rows across an airfield. Additionally, it has highlighted the fierce rivalry for public service positions and the wider difficulties confronting the domestic labor market.
What was the location of the incident?
Over 8,000 individuals applied for 187 Home Guard positions at the Jamadarpali airfield in the Sambalpur district, where the event took place. Regular test centers were unable to accommodate the crowds, thus a large open space was used to control the throng.
Due to the position’s low salary and little requirements, there was a massive influx of applicants. The turnout demonstrated how desperate many people’s employment circumstances had become, especially for young, college-educated individuals.
Early in the morning, the recruiting test started. The Free Press Journal claims that the candidates were permitted access at 9 am, with the reporting time set at 6 am. At 10:30 a.m., question papers were distributed. The exam consisted of a 30-minute paragraph-writing portion worth 20 marks and a 30-mark general knowledge paper lasting an hour.
The controversy surrounding employment was further stoked by a post that was linked to the event and went viral. Under the careful gaze of police officers, the image shows an interminable line of candidates crammed behind metal barriers and stretched over the site. A significant number of security guards were stationed nearby.
High Demand, Low Pay Job Wage for Home Guards: According to reports, the Home Guard position pays Rs 612 a day.
Monthly Salary: The monthly salary is Rs 18,360.
Eligibility: A Class V pass is the minimal educational prerequisite.
Nonetheless, a large number of applicants have advanced degrees, such as Btech, MBA, MCA, certificate holders, ITI students, and computer science specialists.
The Sambalpur police conducted the examinations for positions at 24 police stations.
Among the responsibilities include supporting regular operations, helping police vehicles, and doing simple computer-related activities.
