MP Shocker: In Satna, Madhya Pradesh, up to five youngsters contracted HIV after receiving transfusions of HIV-positive blood at government hospitals.

The infants contracted HIV via the contaminated blood, according to the district-level investigation into the case. The blood bank manager and two lab technicians have been suspended by the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare as part of the action.
Additionally, Dr. Manoj Shukla, the former Civil Surgeon of Satna District Hospital, received a display notice from the department. He has been threatened with severe consequences if his answer is not adequate and urged to provide a written explanation.
According to the official, the preliminary report of a committee established to look into the transfusion of contaminated blood in Satna served as the basis for the action taken against Dr. Devendra Patel, the head of the blood bank, and lab technicians Ram Bhai Tripathi and Nandlal Pandey.
On December 16, it was disclosed that six infants at Satna District Hospital with thalassemia had acquired the fatal illness as a result of getting blood tainted with HIV. One of the children’s parents were also impacted.
The youngsters received a total of 189 units of blood, which came from three blood banks, and were reliant on frequent blood transfusions for their life, according to an NDTV report. The toddlers were exposed to the blood of more than 150 donors, according to the previously cited article.
Every one of these instances, which took place between January and May, is receiving treatment in accordance with HIV guidelines.
