MiddleEastTensions –  Qatar has issued a strong condemnation following what it described as a direct Iranian strike on Ras Laffan Industrial City, an area central to its liquefied natural gas operations. According to officials, the incident led to fires and caused notable damage to infrastructure linked to LNG production, raising serious concerns about energy security and regional stability.

Qatar Calls Incident a Serious Escalation

In an official statement, Qatari authorities labeled the alleged strike as a significant escalation in tensions across the region. The government said the action violated its sovereignty and posed a clear threat to national security. Officials warned that such developments risk destabilizing not only Qatar but also the broader Middle East.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Qatar has maintained a cautious approach since the beginning of ongoing regional conflicts, deliberately avoiding involvement and advocating restraint. Despite this, the country claims it has now been drawn into the situation through what it described as irresponsible actions targeting both Qatar and nearby nations.

Concerns Over Regional Stability and Global Impact

Qatar reiterated its long-standing position against attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure. The ministry highlighted that such facilities are vital not just for regional economies but also for global energy supply chains. It warned that repeated incidents of this nature could disrupt international markets and undermine efforts to maintain peace.

Officials also expressed concern that continued escalation could pull additional countries into the conflict, even those that have so far remained neutral. The statement suggested that the current trajectory risks widening the crisis beyond its existing scope.

Reference to International Law and UN Responsibility

The Qatari government stated that the reported attack represents a violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817. It called on the UN Security Council to take decisive action to uphold international peace and security, urging accountability for actions that breach global norms.

Qatar stressed that the international community must not ignore such developments, particularly when they threaten critical infrastructure and civilian safety. The ministry urged global leaders to intervene diplomatically to prevent further escalation.

Right to Self-Defence Highlighted

In its response, Qatar reaffirmed its right to defend itself under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Officials made it clear that the country is prepared to take necessary steps to protect its territory, citizens, and residents if required.

The government stated that while it continues to support de-escalation efforts, it will not hesitate to act in defense of its sovereignty. The tone of the statement संकेत a readiness to respond if similar incidents occur in the future.

Diplomatic Action Taken Against Iranian Officials

As part of its immediate response, Qatar declared certain personnel from the Iranian Embassy, including military and security attaches, as persona non grata. These officials have been instructed to leave the country within 24 hours.

The decision was formally communicated during a meeting between Qatar’s Director of Protocol, Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro, and Iran’s ambassador to Doha. Authorities described the move as a direct consequence of repeated actions they consider hostile and in violation of international law.

Warning of Further Measures

Qatar indicated that additional steps could follow if what it described as aggressive behavior continues. The ministry stated that any ongoing threats to its sovereignty or security would be met with proportionate measures aimed at safeguarding national interests.

Reaffirming its position, the government concluded that it remains committed to international law while ensuring the protection of its territory and stability. At the same time, it called for renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
