Kishtwar: Security Forces Maintain Pressure as Anti-Terror Operation Continues in
Kishtwar: Joint security forces operating in Jammu and Kashmir sustained momentum in an ongoing counter-terrorism mission on Saturday, confirming renewed contact with suspected militants in the Dolgam area of Kishtwar district. The operation, which has been underway for nearly two weeks, reflects continued coordination between the Indian Army and internal security agencies to prevent militant activity in the region.

Contact Re-Established in Dolgam Area
Officials said that troops involved in Operation Trashi-I re-established contact with terrorists during the early hours of January 31 in the general area of Dolgam. The operation is being conducted jointly by the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force. Based on coordinated intelligence inputs from multiple agencies, a cordon was swiftly put in place to restrict movement and enable a systematic search of the area.
Security personnel on the ground are continuing search and surveillance measures as part of the operation. Authorities have not disclosed further operational details, citing security considerations, but confirmed that efforts are ongoing to neutralize potential threats and ensure civilian safety.
Multi-Agency Intelligence Coordination
According to official statements, the success of the operation so far has relied heavily on intelligence gathered from various sources. These inputs were consolidated to guide troop movement and tactical decisions during the engagement. Officials emphasized that such coordination remains critical in counter-terrorism efforts, particularly in challenging terrain like Kishtwar, which includes dense forests and mountainous areas.
The establishment of a cordon is aimed at preventing militants from escaping and limiting their access to logistical support. Security forces continue to maintain vigilance across adjoining areas as a precautionary measure.
Senior Army Leadership Reviews Preparedness
Earlier in the day, the Army Commander responsible for the region visited Kishtwar to assess the counter-terrorism grid and review operational readiness. During the visit, he interacted with field commanders and troops deployed in the area, receiving briefings on the ground situation and progress of Operation Trashi-I.
Officials said the senior officer commended the personnel for their discipline and sustained commitment, acknowledging the demanding conditions under which they are operating. The visit was part of routine leadership oversight intended to ensure coordination, morale, and preparedness during extended operations.
Operation Trashi-I: Background and Timeline
Operation Trashi-I was launched on January 18 in response to intelligence inputs indicating the presence of armed militants in parts of Kishtwar district. Since its initiation, security forces have carried out area domination patrols, search operations, and targeted engagements to dismantle militant networks.
The operation forms part of broader counter-terrorism efforts in the Union Territory, where security agencies continue to focus on preventing infiltration, disrupting local support systems, and maintaining law and order.
Tribute to Fallen Special Forces Soldier
The ongoing operation has also seen the loss of a soldier in the line of duty. On January 19, the Army paid last respects to Havildar Gajendra Singh, a member of the Special Forces, who was killed during a counter-terrorism encounter in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district.
Havildar Singh lost his life while carrying out an operational task during the intervening night of January 18 and 19. Senior officers and fellow soldiers attended the tribute ceremony, honoring his service and sacrifice.
Official Condolences and Support to Family
In an official statement, the Army expressed deep respect for the courage and dedication shown by the fallen soldier. Authorities reiterated their support to the bereaved family and acknowledged the role played by personnel who continue to serve in high-risk environments.
Security officials stated that the sacrifice underscores the challenges faced by forces deployed in counter-terrorism roles and reaffirmed their resolve to continue operations aimed at safeguarding peace and stability in the region.
