Journalist Assault – Reporter Injured in Violent Roadside Attack at Kalinga Nagar Industrial Area
Journalist Assault – A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the violent attack on a journalist in the Kalinga Nagar industrial region of Odisha’s Jajpur district. Police confirmed the arrest on Thursday while continuing their search for two other individuals who were allegedly involved in the incident and remain untraceable.

Incident Reported Near Patra Sahi
According to police sources, the arrested suspect has been identified as Santosh Patra, a resident of Patra Sahi. Authorities believe he was one of three people who assaulted the journalist during the incident that occurred on Wednesday evening.
The victim, Mahendra Kumar Nath, works with a local daily newspaper. At the time of the incident, Nath was riding his motorcycle through the Kalinga Nagar industrial complex area. Investigators said the confrontation began when the accused and his associates reportedly obstructed the road by standing directly in front of the journalist’s motorcycle near Patra Sahi.
Dispute Escalates Into Violent Assault
Police officials said Nath asked the three men to move aside so he could continue on his way. However, the situation quickly escalated into violence. The suspects allegedly attacked him using iron rods, causing multiple injuries.
During the assault, Nath suffered serious injuries to his leg and left ear, along with other parts of his body. Witnesses in the area reported that the attackers fled the scene shortly after carrying out the assault.
The circumstances that led to the confrontation are currently under investigation. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the attack was related to Nath’s professional work as a journalist or due to another dispute.
Locals Rush Injured Journalist for Treatment
Residents living nearby responded quickly after the incident. Locals rushed Nath to the Danagadi Community Health Centre where he initially received medical attention.
Doctors later decided to shift him to a larger medical facility after his condition worsened. He was subsequently transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment and monitoring.
Hospital officials have not publicly released detailed information regarding his current medical status, but sources said he sustained serious injuries that required specialized care.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Law enforcement officials acted swiftly after receiving information about the incident. Santosh Patra was taken into custody and booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Additional Superintendent of Police Suprasana Mallick confirmed the arrest and stated that police teams are actively working to locate the remaining two suspects.
“We have arrested the main accused under applicable sections of the BNS. Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the other two individuals who were involved in the attack and are currently absconding,” Mallick said.
Investigators are also examining statements from witnesses and gathering additional evidence to determine the sequence of events that led to the assault.
