Journalism – Uttarakhand Hosts Special Health Camp for Media Workers
Journalism – The Uttarakhand government has taken a focused step toward supporting the well-being of journalists by organizing a dedicated medical camp in Haldwani. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, authorities arranged a one-day health check-up initiative tailored specifically for members of the media, acknowledging the demanding schedules and irregular working hours that often affect their health.
Health Camp Held at Haldwani Media Centre
The camp was conducted on Thursday at the Haldwani Media Centre through a joint effort of the Information and Public Relations Department and the Health and Medical Department. The initiative was designed to provide accessible and comprehensive medical services to journalists and their families in a single location.
Senior district officials were present to oversee the arrangements. District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal reviewed the facilities alongside Chief Medical Officer Nainital and Joint Director Information Nitin Upadhyay. They interacted with medical teams and participants to ensure that the services were being delivered efficiently.
Emphasis on Healthy Journalism and Democracy
Addressing those present, the District Magistrate underlined the essential role of journalists in a democratic system. He said that independent and responsible reporting strengthens governance by keeping the administration accountable and by informing citizens about key developments.
He further noted that the state administration recognises the pressures associated with media work, including tight deadlines and field reporting. According to him, safeguarding the health of journalists is part of the government’s broader welfare commitments.
Comprehensive Medical Services Offered
The medical camp offered a wide range of diagnostic and consultation services. Facilities included X-ray examinations, ECG tests, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, thyroid screening, and other laboratory investigations. Specialist doctors from multiple disciplines were available throughout the day.
Cardiologists, orthopaedic experts, gynaecologists, ophthalmologists, dental surgeons and general physicians conducted detailed check-ups. After assessment, required medicines were distributed free of cost to the participants. Organisers ensured that all services were delivered under proper medical supervision and in a systematic manner.
Strong Participation from Media Community
Journalists from print, electronic and digital platforms attended the camp in significant numbers. Media personnel from Haldwani, Ramnagar, Lalkuan and Kaladhungi, along with their family members, made use of the facilities provided. Officials reported that more than 100 beneficiaries underwent health examinations during the one-day event.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that such camps make preventive healthcare more accessible, particularly for professionals who often struggle to find time for routine check-ups.
Plan to Expand Health Outreach
Joint Director Information Nitin Upadhyay stated that similar health camps would be organised periodically in other parts of the state. He said the objective is to extend quality medical services to as many media representatives and citizens as possible, in line with government guidelines.
The initiative reflects the administration’s broader effort to widen access to healthcare across different sections of society. By focusing on preventive care and early diagnosis, the government aims to promote long-term health security among working professionals.
The camp was formally inaugurated by District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Harish Chandra Pant along with Joint Director Information Nitin Upadhyay. Officials described the event as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen public health services and ensure that welfare measures reach those who contribute significantly to public discourse.
