J&K: The cold wave in deepens as Gulmarg freezes at minus 8.8
J&K: The ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a low temperature of minus 8.8 degrees Celsius on Monday, while Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, as the cold wave intensified.

Gulmarg saw the coldest night of the season, with a low temperature of minus 8.8 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological (MeT) Department.
The lowest temperature was minus 3.6 degrees Celsius in Srinagar and minus 4.8 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam.
The lowest recorded nighttime temperatures were 8.7 degrees Celsius in Jammu city, 5.6 in Katra town, 2.1 in Batote, 1.3 in Batote minus, and 2.1 in Bhaderwah.
A significant snowstorm has so far avoided the Valley, despite new snowfall in Gulmarg and Sonamarg.
There is little chance of significant snowfall during the current 40-day Chillai Kalan period, as the MeT Department predicts mostly dry weather until January 20.
There would be very little discharge in J&K’s rivers, streams, springs, lakes, and wells throughout the summer if the Chillai Kalan passes without significant snowfall.

Doctors are advising individuals to exercise cautious due to the cold and dry weather, particularly those with a history of lung and heart conditions. It is been recommended that these susceptible individuals stay inside until the weather warms up.
