For starters, Chilai Kalan’s freezing period is when the Valley experiences its coldest peaks. The Chillai Kalan takes place from December 21 to January 31.

According to an official, the weather will be more favorable for the security forces starting on January 31 and considerably more progress will be made in the current operation.

Security officials have seen a significant change in the 30-35 Jaish-e-Mohammad militants, even though the weather is a big deterrent.

This time, the terror gang has made a significant change in the timing of their operation. They usually keep low during this period, but this time they are attempting an operation in spite of the unfavorable weather.

The security authorities have seen a shift in the trend, indicating that the terrorists who have expanded across the Doda and Kishtwar belt are active.

Additionally, they have segregated themselves at greater elevations, which is not something they typically do.

In the past, terrorists would often hide in villagers’ houses during this time. The villagers would also provide them with food and assistance, but they have refrained from doing so this time.

They have chosen to isolate themselves since, according to officials, the locals are unwilling to assist them after the Pahalgam incident.

There is no question that the terrorists have taken a significant risk in terms of logistics and health, according to an Intelligence Bureau officer. They run the danger of being easily destroyed by the security forces when they operate at such high altitudes at such a period.

According to an official, the terrorists’ decision to take that risk highlights the need for agencies to exercise caution since they are likely to try a low-scale strike.

Desperation is also evident in taking such a significant risk while fully aware that they can only launch a low-scale strike.

The Indian military’s Operation Sindoor, which was launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam assault, severely damaged the terror infrastructure.

Pakistan has made the decision to call upon some of its current terrorists in the Valley to launch an attack as infiltrations have almost stopped.

In terms of recruiting, an incident in Jammu and Kashmir is significant, even if it is small-scale.

According to sources, Pakistan feels that any strike would boost the morale of the current cadres and encourage younger ones to join the terror organizations. In order to evade discovery, the terrorists are also communicating very little.

Additionally, the agencies have learned that these terrorists have chosen to execute the operation in smaller groups in order to prevent the whole group from being destroyed at once.

For these terrorist organizations, the rules have shifted. Due to severe weather, activities would often completely stop during this period. But regardless of the weather, these organizations have made the decision to commit acts of terror. They are willing to take the chance while knowing full well that they cannot launch a massive offensive at such times, which is another indication of their desperation.

The security personnel have also had difficulties since they must maintain vigilance throughout the year.

In spite of the severe weather and dangerous terrain, the army has stepped up its efforts. Additionally, it has altered its approach and adopted a controversial stance during the winter. Additionally, it has boosted activities rather than decreasing them as it used to. In order to combat these terrorists, it has also established snowbound bases.

Since terrorists would try to use the snowfall to their advantage while attempting to enter India from Pakistan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed the security forces to maintain a posture of very high alert in Jammu and Kashmir. Several missile sites have emerged in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), according to Indian sources. However, the high level of security and ongoing vigilance are making it difficult for terrorists to penetrate.
