Jammu-Kashmir News: The first-ever foodgrain freight train in Jammu and Kashmir arrives in Anantnag; LG Sinha calls it a “memorable occasion.”
Jammu-Kashmir News: According to authorities, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) officially integrated Kashmir into the national freight rail network on Sunday as its first-ever foodgrain freight train arrived at the Anantnag Goods Terminal here in Kashmir.

“The freight rake, carrying approximately 1,384 tonnes of food grains loaded in wagons, was dispatched from Ajitwal Railway Station and successfully arrived at Anantnag Goods Terminal,” according to an official spokesperson.
After the train arrived in Kashmir with over 1,384 tons of grains, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha praised Indian Railways.
“This is undoubtedly a very memorable occasion and realises our long-cherished dream of connecting the Kashmir region to the national freight network,” Sinha said.
According to a statement from Northern Railway’s Jammu division, a Food Corporation of India (FCI) foodgrain freight train with 21 BCN wagons successfully reached Anantnag Goods Terminal in south Kashmir on Sunday for the first time.
The spokesman said that the train’s arrival is a step toward guaranteeing the Valley’s continuous and effective supply of foodgrains, especially to isolated and distant locations.
In addition to improving buffer stock movement dependability, rail-based transportation will lower transportation costs, resulting in a quicker and more cost-effective supply chain, he said.
According to the spokesperson, the development would enhance the local agricultural economy, promote local markets, and open up new chances in the logistics and related industries.
He noted that the Anantnag products Terminal’s completion has created new channels for the transportation of other products and necessities, opening the door for future growth in freight operations.
