Jaishankar : EAM talks to Australia’s Wong during the Bondi Beach shoot

Jaishankar: Following a shooting incident at the famous Bondi Beach that targeted a Jewish celebration and left 15 people dead, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday expressed India’s “fullest support” to Australia to his Australian colleague Penny Wong.

Jaishankar also expressed sympathy for the innocent victims of the assault in a phone call with Wong.

According to Australian officials, two shooters murdered 15 people and wounded over 40 others in the incident on Sunday. Jaishankar denounced the terror act a few hours after it happened.

He declared on Sunday that he strongly condemned the terror assault on Bondi Beach’s Hanukkah festivities.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” he said.

Anthony Albanese, the prime minister of Australia, called the incident a “dark moment” for the nation.

“This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith,” he said to reporters.

“At this dark moment for our nation, our police and security agencies are working to determine anyone associated with this outrage,” stated the president.

A spate of antisemitic incidents around the nation preceded the Bondi shooting. The assailants were revealed to be Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram’s father and son.

The youngster was hurt and is receiving treatment at a hospital, while the father was shot and killed by police.

Among the international leaders who denounced the incident was Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Strongly condemn the ghastly terrorist attack carried out today at Bondi Beach, Australia, targeting people celebrating the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah,” Modi said on X on Sunday.

“I offer my deepest sympathies to the families who lost a loved one on behalf of the Indian people.

In this time of sorrow, we stand in solidarity with the people of Australia,” he said.

According to the prime minister, India opposes all kinds of terrorism and has zero tolerance for it.
