Investigation – NIA Intensifies Kashmir Raids in Ongoing Terror Funding Probe

Investigation – The National Investigation Agency carried out coordinated search operations across several parts of the Kashmir Valley on Monday, stepping up its ongoing investigation into terror-linked activities and suspected funding channels. The early-morning action covered multiple districts and was conducted simultaneously to prevent the movement or concealment of evidence.

Early-Morning Searches Across Key Districts

According to officials familiar with the operation, NIA teams launched searches at various locations in Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, and Bandipora shortly after daybreak. The operation involved residential premises as well as other properties believed to have links with individuals under scrutiny in terror-related cases.

Security forces ensured the searches were executed smoothly. The NIA teams were supported by personnel from the local police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), allowing the agency to carry out the action across geographically spread locations at the same time.

Focus on Suspected Support Networks

Officials indicated that the searches are part of a broader effort to dismantle financial and logistical networks that allegedly provide support to militant groups operating in the Valley. Investigators are examining possible links between local facilitators and larger terror financing structures, including the movement of funds and the provision of safe houses or other assistance.

In Baramulla district, search operations were reported from Bomai Sopore, Zethan Rafiabad, and the Model Town area of Sopore. Additional searches were conducted in the main town of Bandipora, while in Srinagar district, teams were seen at premises in the HMT Mustafabad area.

Assistance From Local Security Agencies

The presence of local police units during the operation was aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring that the searches proceeded without disruption. CRPF personnel provided area security, particularly in sensitive locations, as investigators carried out documentation and verification processes inside the targeted premises.

Officials said that the coordinated nature of the operation reflects the agency’s intent to act swiftly and prevent any advance warning that could compromise the investigation.

Broader Legal Push Against Terror Cases

Beyond field operations, the NIA continues to pursue several high-profile terror-related cases in court. The agency has been actively contesting cases it filed earlier and opposing bail pleas submitted by accused individuals, including separatist leaders such as Shabir Shah.

In January 2019, the agency filed a charge sheet against 12 individuals, naming senior figures from banned militant organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. The cases focus on alleged terror financing, recruitment, and support activities.

Proceedings Involving Yasin Malik

The agency is also pursuing the death penalty for Yasin Malik, the chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), in connection with the 1990 killings of four Indian Air Force personnel in Srinagar’s Rawalpora area. Among those killed was Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna. Witnesses in the case have identified Malik as the main shooter, while Showkat Bakshi has been named as an associate involved in the attack.

Malik is already serving a life sentence after admitting to charges related to waging war against the state and participating in a criminal conspiracy. In a related development, the Delhi High Court on January 28 granted the NIA four weeks to file its rejoinder to Malik’s response in the agency’s appeal seeking capital punishment in a terror funding case.

Official Details Awaited

While the searches have concluded in several locations, authorities have not yet released an official statement detailing recoveries or further action. Officials indicated that more information would be shared after the examination of materials collected during the raids is completed.
