HealthUpdate – Senior political leader Sharad Pawar was discharged from a Pune hospital on Wednesday morning after receiving treatment for dehydration, doctors confirmed, adding that his condition is stable and he is recovering well.

The 85-year-old Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief had been admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic on Sunday after experiencing weakness linked to fluid loss. Medical officials said he responded positively to treatment over the past few days.

Hospital Stay and Medical Advice

According to Dr. Purvez Grant, chief cardiologist and chairman of the hospital, Pawar showed steady improvement during his stay. After routine monitoring and supportive care, doctors determined he was fit to be discharged.

“He is in good health now and has already left for Mumbai,” Dr. Grant said. He further noted that Pawar has been advised to rest for a few days before resuming his regular political engagements and travel schedule.

Hospital sources indicated that the admission was precautionary, given Pawar’s age and recent medical history. Dehydration can lead to complications in elderly patients if not addressed promptly, making early hospitalization a prudent decision.

Recent Health Concerns

This is the second time in recent weeks that Pawar has required medical attention at the same facility. Earlier in February, he was admitted for a chest infection and remained under care for several days before being discharged after recovery.

Doctors familiar with his treatment said both hospitalizations were managed effectively, and there is no cause for immediate concern. However, they emphasized the importance of adequate rest and monitoring.

Political Engagements on Hold

Pawar, a Rajya Sabha member and one of Maharashtra’s most senior political figures, has maintained an active public life despite his age. His brief hospital stay prompted party leaders and supporters to express concern, though officials consistently described his condition as stable.

With doctors advising limited activity in the immediate term, his public appearances are expected to be postponed for a few days. Party sources indicated that scheduled meetings and engagements may be adjusted accordingly.

Medical Perspective on Dehydration in Elderly Patients

Health experts point out that dehydration can develop quickly in older adults, particularly during periods of travel, public engagements, or seasonal changes. Symptoms often include fatigue, dizziness, and weakness, which require timely medical assessment.

In Pawar’s case, doctors acted swiftly to prevent complications. Supportive care, including fluids and observation, ensured a smooth recovery, hospital authorities said.

Supporters Express Relief

News of Pawar’s discharge brought relief to party workers and well-wishers across Maharashtra. Several leaders conveyed their good wishes, hoping for his swift return to public life after adequate rest.

While doctors have recommended a short recovery period, they remain optimistic about his overall health. Medical officials reiterated that he is stable and recovering satisfactorily.

Pawar is now back in Mumbai and is expected to resume his routine responsibilities after following medical advice for rest over the next few days.
