Health – A series of unexplained child deaths in Rajasthan’s Salumber district has alarmed local authorities, with officials racing to identify the cause and prevent further cases.
A sudden and unexplained illness has led to the deaths of five young children in Rajasthan’s Salumber district within a span of five days, prompting urgent action from the health department. The children, all between the ages of two and four, reportedly developed symptoms such as fever and vomiting and succumbed within a day of falling ill.
Cases Reported From Two Villages
The incidents have been concentrated in Lalpura and Ghata villages, located in the Lasadiya sub-division. According to local officials, three of the deceased children—Deepak (4), Laxman (3), and Seema (4)—belonged to Lalpura. The other two victims, Rahul (4) and Kajal (2), were from Ghata village.
The sudden pattern of illness and rapid deterioration in these cases has raised concern among residents and authorities alike, especially given the young age of the victims and the speed at which the illness progressed.
Several Children Under Medical Care
Health officials have confirmed that at least eight more children displaying similar symptoms are currently receiving treatment at medical facilities in Salumber and Udaipur. Doctors are closely monitoring these patients, and efforts are being made to provide timely intervention to prevent further fatalities.
Medical teams have been deployed to both villages, where they are conducting door-to-door health screenings. Residents are being examined for symptoms, and those found unwell are being referred for immediate treatment.
Large-Scale Screening and Monitoring Efforts
The affected villages together have more than 560 households, making the screening operation a significant task. Authorities have intensified surveillance in the area to ensure that any new cases are identified quickly.
Additional District Magistrate Dinesh Rai Sapela emphasized the importance of early diagnosis. He stated that individuals showing symptoms are being attended to promptly and urged villagers not to delay seeking medical help.
Investigation Into Cause Underway
Officials from the health department have sent samples to a government laboratory for detailed analysis. Chief Medical and Health Officer Mahendra Parmar said that determining the exact cause of the illness will depend on the results of these tests.
Until then, authorities are treating the situation with caution, focusing on containment measures and supportive care for those affected.
Preventive Measures Extended to Livestock Areas
As part of precautionary steps, teams from the animal husbandry department have also conducted disinfection drives in cattle sheds, particularly in Ghata village. While there is no confirmed link between livestock and the illness, officials are taking a comprehensive approach to rule out all possible sources.
Public Awareness and Advisory
Local MLA Thawarchand Damor visited the affected areas to review the situation. During his visit, he appealed to residents to rely on medical treatment and avoid misinformation or traditional beliefs that could delay proper care. He stressed that timely medical attention is critical in such situations.
Authorities continue to urge villagers to report symptoms immediately and cooperate with health teams. With investigations ongoing, officials remain focused on identifying the cause and ensuring that no further loss of life occurs.
