Gurugram: Nightclub Shooting in Gurugram Highlights the Dark Side of Obsession and Rejected Advances
Gurugram: A disturbing incident in Gurugram, Haryana, has once again drawn attention to the serious consequences of harassment, stalking, and unchecked obsession. A young married woman was shot near a popular nightlife area after she reportedly refused a marriage proposal from a man who had been pursuing her for months. The incident has raised concerns about women’s safety, crime near entertainment zones, and the urgent need for stricter preventive action.
The Incident Near a Nightclub in Gurugram
The incident occurred late at night near a nightclub located in the MG Road area of Gurugram. The victim, a 25-year-old married woman named Kalpana, sustained a gunshot wound to her stomach. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where she was admitted for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was declared unfit to give a statement at that time.
Police officials from the MG Road police post, operating under the DLF Sector 29 police station, reached the hospital soon after receiving information about the shooting. The area where the incident took place is known for its active nightlife, making the crime even more alarming for local residents and visitors.
Statement Provided by the Victim’s Husband
As the victim was unable to speak, her husband submitted a written complaint to the police. According to his statement, Kalpana had left for work on the evening of December 19. In the early hours of December 20, around 1 am, she contacted him and informed him that she had been shot and was being taken to the hospital.
The husband alleged that the attacker was a man named Tushar, who had been persistently following and harassing Kalpana for several months. Despite knowing that she was married, the accused had allegedly proposed marriage to her multiple times and refused to accept her rejection.
Ongoing Harassment and Previous Disturbances
As per the complaint, the accused had created disturbances in the victim’s neighborhood earlier as well. About a month before the shooting, he allegedly caused a public ruckus after Kalpana repeatedly rejected his advances. These incidents indicate a pattern of stalking behavior and harassment that went unchecked before escalating into violence.
Such cases underline the importance of taking early warning signs seriously, especially when repeated harassment and intimidation are reported.
Arrest of the Accused and Police Action
Following the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. On December 25, law enforcement authorities arrested two individuals in connection with the shooting. The accused were identified as Tushar, also known as Jonty, aged 25, and Shubham, also known as Johnny, aged 24. They were arrested from Baraut in Uttar Pradesh.
During questioning, Tushar reportedly confessed that he had befriended Kalpana around six months prior to the incident. He admitted that on the night of the shooting, he once again proposed to her and became enraged after being rejected. In a fit of anger, he allegedly fired at her using a pistol.

The police have confirmed that a detailed probe is currently underway. Authorities are examining all aspects of the case, including how the weapon was procured and whether there were previous complaints that could have prevented the incident.
This case has reignited discussions around women’s safety in urban areas, especially near nightlife hubs.
