Appeal Ahead of Israel Visit

In a message shared on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi said she hoped the Prime Minister would refer to the loss of innocent lives in Gaza while speaking at the Knesset. She stressed that India, as a nation with a long-standing commitment to truth and peace, should not remain silent on humanitarian concerns.

She noted that India’s global voice has historically been aligned with principles of justice and moral responsibility. According to her, raising the issue of civilian casualties in Gaza would reflect the country’s enduring values on the international stage.

Her statement has added a political dimension to the Prime Minister’s upcoming diplomatic engagement, especially at a time when the Gaza conflict continues to draw global attention and concern over civilian safety.

Details of the Prime Minister’s Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to Israel on February 25–26 at the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This will mark his second visit to the country, following his landmark trip in 2017, when he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel.

During the visit, Mr. Modi is scheduled to hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the India-Israel Strategic Partnership and reviewing progress made in recent years.

In addition to his meeting with Mr. Netanyahu, the Prime Minister is also expected to call on Israeli President Isaac Herzog as part of the official programme.

Expanding Strategic Cooperation

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two sides will examine cooperation across several sectors. These include science and technology, innovation, defence and security, agriculture, water management, trade, and economic collaboration. People-to-people exchanges are also likely to be part of the agenda, reflecting the growing ties between the two democracies.

Officials have indicated that regional and global developments will also feature in the discussions. Both countries share interests in addressing evolving geopolitical challenges, and the visit is expected to provide an opportunity for an exchange of views on matters of mutual concern.

India and Israel have steadily deepened their relationship since establishing full diplomatic ties in 1992. Over the years, defence cooperation and technology partnerships have become key pillars of the bilateral engagement.

Diplomatic Significance and Political Reactions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the forthcoming visit as “historic,” noting that bilateral ties continue to expand across multiple domains. His remarks underscore the importance both governments attach to the engagement.

At the same time, Priyanka Gandhi’s call reflects domestic political debate over how India should position itself on sensitive international issues, including the Gaza conflict. While the government has maintained diplomatic engagement with Israel, India has also reiterated its support for dialogue and a peaceful resolution in West Asia.

The upcoming visit is expected to reaffirm the strategic depth of India-Israel relations while also drawing attention to broader humanitarian and geopolitical questions. As global leaders grapple with ongoing instability in the region, the Prime Minister’s statements during the trip will be closely watched both at home and abroad.
