Extortion – Delhi Businessman Arrested for Posing as Bishnoi Gang to Demand ₹5 Crore

Extortion – A man from Delhi has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a member of the Bishnoi gang and attempting to extort ₹5 crore from a stock market businessman living in Mumbai’s Malad area. Police later discovered that the accused, Kailash Agarwal, is actually related to the complainant. Investigators say the alleged extortion attempt was driven by heavy financial losses the accused had suffered in his business.

Background of the Threat Calls

According to police officials, the accused made several threatening calls and sent multiple messages to the Malad-based businessman over a period of time. During these calls, he reportedly claimed to have connections with the Bishnoi gang and warned the victim that he would be killed if the demanded amount was not paid.

Investigators said the accused deliberately tried to create panic by using the name of the notorious gang, hoping the fear associated with organized crime would pressure the victim into paying the money. The ransom demand was set at ₹5 crore.

To prevent authorities from identifying him, the accused allegedly relied on a virtual private network while making calls and sending messages from his phone. This technology helped him hide his actual location and complicated the initial phase of the investigation.

Victim Approaches Police

The businessman, disturbed by the repeated threats and intimidation, eventually decided to approach the Malad Police Station. He filed a formal complaint and provided details of the calls and messages he had received.

Following the complaint, the police immediately launched an investigation. Officers began examining the phone records and digital traces linked to the threatening communications. Because the suspect had used technology to conceal his identity, investigators relied heavily on technical analysis and cyber tracking.

Police Track the Suspect to Delhi

During the probe, investigators managed to break through the VPN layer that had been used to mask the caller’s location. Once the system was analyzed, police were able to identify a digital trail that led them to Delhi.

After confirming the suspect’s whereabouts, a police team led by PSI Bachav from the Malad Police Station travelled to the national capital to apprehend him. The team reportedly spent nearly a week conducting surveillance and verifying technical evidence before carrying out the arrest.

Eventually, the officers succeeded in locating Kailash Agarwal and took him into custody in Delhi. He was then brought to Mumbai for further questioning.

Financial Losses Revealed During Interrogation

During interrogation, investigators uncovered another surprising detail. According to officials, the accused himself is a well-known businessman based in Delhi. He is also related to the victim who filed the complaint.

Senior police officials stated that Agarwal had been facing serious financial difficulties due to losses in his business ventures. Investigators believe this financial stress may have led him to attempt the extortion plan.

Police say the accused intentionally invoked the name of the Bishnoi gang to increase the credibility of the threat and pressure the victim into paying the ransom.

Further Investigation Underway

Authorities are now examining whether the accused had any real links with the Bishnoi gang or if he acted alone in the scheme. Police are also investigating whether anyone else assisted him in planning or carrying out the threatening calls.

Officials believe the accused tried to exploit both modern technology and the fear surrounding organized crime to extract a large amount of money. However, the prompt complaint filed by the businessman allowed investigators to act quickly and uncover the plan.

The Malad Police have stated that the investigation is continuing, and additional digital evidence is being analyzed to determine whether there were any other individuals involved in the attempted extortion.
