Energy – Uttarakhand Government Reshuffles Top Officials Across Power Sector Bodies

Energy –  The Uttarakhand government has initiated a significant administrative overhaul across its key energy institutions, introducing changes in leadership positions and assigning new responsibilities to senior officials.

Uttarakhand power sector reshuffle

The reshuffle has affected multiple departments, including major corporations responsible for power distribution and generation. Officials say the move is part of a broader effort to improve efficiency and streamline operations in the state’s energy sector.

Key Changes in Power Corporations

In one of the prominent decisions, Anil Kumar has been removed from his role as Managing Director of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) with immediate effect. Similarly, Sandeep Singhal has been relieved of his duties as Managing Director of UJVN Limited (UJVNL). Ajay Agarwal, who was serving as Director (Projects) at UPCL, has also been removed from his position.

To ensure continuity in operations, the government has assigned additional charge of UPCL to Gajendra Singh Budiyal. Meanwhile, Ajay Kumar Singh has been entrusted with additional responsibilities in UJVNL. These interim arrangements are expected to remain in place until permanent appointments are made.

Administrative Shift Beyond Energy Sector

Apart from the energy sector changes, Vijay Prasad Thapliyal has been relieved from his deputation as Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee. He has been sent back to his parent department, the Agricultural Produce Market Committee. Officials indicated that the decision aligns with administrative restructuring priorities.

Focus on Environmental Balance in Development Projects

Alongside administrative changes, the state government is also placing emphasis on balancing development with environmental protection. Scientists from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) recently presented a detailed study to Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan in Dehradun.

The study examined ecological concerns linked to the ongoing construction work under the Badrinath Corridor Development Project. It highlighted the importance of maintaining environmental stability in sensitive mountainous regions.

Chief Secretary Bardhan noted that such scientific assessments are increasingly relevant, especially in a state like Uttarakhand where development activities must be carefully aligned with ecological considerations. He directed officials to ensure that such studies are used wherever necessary and that findings are verified before implementation.

Recent Meetings and Development Initiatives

In recent weeks, several high-level meetings and development activities have taken place in the state. Earlier in February, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his residence in a courtesy visit.

The Chief Minister has also been actively involved in reviewing and launching development projects. During a recent visit to Tehri Garhwal, he attended an inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony for multiple initiatives.

Infrastructure Projects in Tehri District

During the event in Ghansali, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 41.21 crore. This includes three projects valued at Rs 13.43 crore that were inaugurated, along with five new projects worth Rs 27.78 crore.

A key highlight of the programme was the foundation laying for upgrading the Primary Health Centre in Pilkhi into a Community Health Centre. The Chief Minister also acknowledged the contribution of Krishna Gairola and his family, who donated land for the hospital.

Government Emphasises Timely Execution

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dhami stressed the importance of completing projects within set timelines. He stated that development works should not face unnecessary delays and assured that both completion and inauguration would be carried out as scheduled.

He further underlined the government’s commitment to improving essential facilities such as roads, healthcare, and education, particularly in hill regions. According to him, strong planning and determination can help overcome challenges related to limited resources.

Discussion with Governor on State Development

In another development, the Chief Minister met Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) at Lok Bhavan. The meeting focused on ongoing development projects and other key issues affecting the state. Both leaders discussed strategies to ensure steady progress while addressing emerging challenges.

The recent administrative reshuffle, combined with continued focus on infrastructure and environmental balance, reflects the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and development across Uttarakhand.
