Appointment Follows Months of Delay

The decision comes after prolonged delays in processing her application, which had drawn attention following media reports highlighting her situation. Despite clear assurances from top government officials, Asawari had been waiting for nearly ten months for the promised employment to materialize.

Her case had raised concerns about administrative bottlenecks, especially given the commitments made to families affected by the terror incident.

Promises Made After Pahalgam Attack

Asawari Jagdale is the daughter of Santosh Jagdale, one of seven individuals from Maharashtra who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack. Following the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had met the bereaved families and pledged support.

The state government had announced financial compensation along with government jobs for eligible family members of the victims. Asawari, who holds a degree in computer science and a master’s qualification in human resources, was considered suitable for administrative responsibilities.

Higher Post Offered Than Initially Planned

Speaking about the development, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that while the initial plan was to offer her a lower-grade government position, the authorities decided to appoint her to a higher Grade-II post in recognition of her qualifications.

He confirmed that the Pune mayor personally handed over the appointment letter, ensuring that the commitment made to the family was honored.

Political Attention and Public Concern

The delay in her appointment had also drawn political attention. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) Member of Parliament Supriya Sule had publicly expressed concern over the situation, questioning why the process remained incomplete despite repeated assurances and Asawari’s strong academic background.

Her remarks had added pressure on the administration to expedite the process and address the pending commitment.

Closure to a Long Wait

With the appointment now finalized, the development brings relief to the Jagdale family, who had been awaiting concrete action following the promises made after the tragic attack. The move is also seen as a step toward ensuring accountability in delivering government assurances to victims’ families.

The Pune Municipal Corporation is expected to complete further formalities soon, enabling Asawari to begin her responsibilities in the administrative role.
