Elections – PM Modi to Visit Assam Ahead of Youth Outreach Event
Elections – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to Assam on March 13 and 14, where he will participate in several government programmes scheduled in Guwahati and Kokrajhar. According to party sources, the visit comes at a time when political activity in the state is gradually intensifying ahead of the expected assembly elections.

Programmes Planned During Prime Minister’s Visit
During his two-day visit, the Prime Minister will attend multiple official events and development-related programmes. These engagements are expected to focus on highlighting ongoing government initiatives and projects in the region. Preparations for the visit have already begun, with both the state administration and party workers coordinating arrangements in Guwahati and Kokrajhar.
Officials indicated that the programmes aim to present updates on infrastructure and development work undertaken in Assam over the past few years. The visit is also expected to include interactions with local representatives and community leaders.
Youth Conference Scheduled in Guwahati
Soon after the Prime Minister’s visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a large youth conference in Guwahati on March 15. The event is being organized as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s outreach efforts to connect with young voters in the state.
Party sources stated that close to one lakh young participants from different districts of Assam are expected to attend the conference. Organizers say the gathering will focus on discussing employment opportunities, education, and development schemes designed to benefit the youth population.
The conference is also expected to provide a platform for discussions on skill development programmes and entrepreneurship initiatives in the region.
Political Outreach Ahead of Assembly Elections
The consecutive visits by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister are being seen by political observers as part of a broader engagement effort ahead of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections. Leaders from the ruling alliance are expected to use these public programmes to communicate the government’s development agenda to a wider audience.
Extensive preparations are underway for both events. Security arrangements, crowd management plans, and logistical preparations are currently being coordinated by local authorities in collaboration with party officials.
Candidate Selection Process Underway
Earlier in the day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed reporters in Guwahati that the Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to finalize its list of candidates for the assembly elections between March 11 and March 15.
According to Sarma, the announcement timeline may adjust if the Election Commission of India decides to revise or postpone the election schedule. In such a scenario, the party could organize an additional phase of its ongoing Jan Ashirwad Yatra campaign.
Progress of Jan Ashirwad Yatra Campaign
The BJP launched its Jan Ashirwad Yatra from the Dhekiajuli assembly constituency on February 28. The campaign has covered more than 900 kilometers across 32 constituencies so far.
Party leaders involved in the yatra have interacted with large gatherings during the journey, meeting residents and supporters while discussing development initiatives and governance issues. Organizers say the outreach programme has seen participation from thousands of people across different regions of the state.
Assembly Elections Expected Soon
The Assam Legislative Assembly has 126 seats, and elections are widely expected to take place during March or April. However, the Election Commission of India has not yet announced the official polling schedule.
In the previous assembly election held in 2021, the National Democratic Alliance secured a clear majority. The alliance included the Bharatiya Janata Party, Asom Gana Parishad, and United People’s Party Liberal.
The BJP emerged as the largest party within the alliance, winning 60 seats, while the coalition collectively secured 75 seats in the assembly.
