Elections – Animated Campaign Aims to Boost Youth Voting Awareness
Elections – The Election Commission of India has introduced a creative outreach programme featuring the well-known animated character Chhota Bheem to encourage voter participation ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for April 23 and 29, 2026. The campaign is particularly focused on guiding young and first-time voters through the electoral process.

Engaging Young Voters Through Familiar Characters
In an effort to make voter education more relatable, the Commission has collaborated with Green Gold Animation, the studio behind Chhota Bheem. The initiative uses storytelling and illustrated content to explain voting procedures in a simple and engaging manner. By leveraging a character that resonates across age groups, the campaign aims to reduce hesitation and confusion among new voters.
Rajiv Chilaka, founder and CEO of Green Gold Animation, said the partnership is centered on promoting awareness about the importance of voting. He explained that specially designed comics and educational materials have been developed to address common questions related to elections.
Addressing Confusion Around the Voting Process
According to Chilaka, a significant portion of India’s population consists of young individuals who may be voting for the first time. Many of them are unsure about registration procedures, eligibility requirements, and documentation needed on polling day.
The campaign seeks to simplify these concerns by providing clear information on how to register as a voter, verify one’s name on the electoral roll, and understand whether voting is possible without a physical voter ID card. These topics are being covered through easy-to-understand narratives to ensure accessibility for a wide audience.
Why Chhota Bheem Was Chosen
Chilaka highlighted that the character of Bheem represents honesty, courage, and fairness—qualities that align well with the democratic process. As a non-political and widely recognized figure, Bheem serves as a neutral messenger capable of reaching both younger audiences and adults.
The use of animation also allows complex information to be presented in a simplified format, making it easier for viewers to grasp essential details about voting without feeling overwhelmed.
Campaign Launch and Public Outreach Plans
The awareness drive is set to be officially launched in West Bengal, where the character will also appear as a mascot during public events. These appearances are expected to attract attention and encourage greater participation among youth voters.
Organizers believe that combining entertainment with education will help bridge the gap between information and action, ultimately increasing voter turnout in the upcoming elections.
Expansion to Other Election-Bound Regions
While the campaign begins in West Bengal, it is not limited to one state. Plans are already in place to extend the initiative to other regions heading into elections, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Assam.
Polling in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry is scheduled for April 9 in a single phase, while Tamil Nadu will hold its elections on April 23. Vote counting for all these states and union territories will take place on May 4.
Encouraging Informed Participation
Officials involved in the initiative emphasize that informed participation is key to strengthening democracy. By addressing practical concerns and simplifying procedures, the campaign aims to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind due to lack of awareness.
The use of a popular cultural icon reflects a broader shift toward innovative communication strategies in public administration, especially when targeting younger demographics.
