Polling was conducted on Saturday, February 7, across several districts in the state amid tight security and extensive administrative arrangements. The elections drew participation from over two crore eligible voters, reflecting significant public engagement in grassroots governance.

Districts Report Strong Voter Response

Among the districts, Parbhani registered the highest voter turnout at 74.89 percent. Kolhapur followed closely with 74.45 percent participation, while Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded 72.69 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, Ratnagiri reported the lowest turnout at 55.79 percent.

Election officials noted that polling remained largely peaceful across all districts. Minor logistical challenges were addressed promptly, ensuring that the voting process continued without major disruption.

Over 7,400 Candidates in the Fray

The elections witnessed a substantial number of contestants. A total of 7,438 candidates competed for 731 seats in Zilla Parishads and 1,462 seats in Panchayat Samitis. The scale of the contest underscores the competitive nature of local governance in Maharashtra.

The electorate comprised 1,06,33,269 male voters and 1,01,86,965 female voters. Additionally, 468 voters were registered under other categories. Authorities had established 25,471 polling stations to accommodate the large voter base, ensuring accessibility in both rural and semi-urban regions.

To manage the process smoothly, around 1.28 lakh personnel were deployed for election duty. Security forces and administrative staff were stationed across polling booths to maintain order and assist voters where required.

Counting Process to Begin at 10 AM

Results will be announced for 12 Zilla Parishads, including those in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani, Dharashiv and Latur. In addition, outcomes for 125 Panchayat Samitis functioning under these bodies will also be declared.

Counting of votes will commence at 10 am on February 9 under strict supervision. Officials have indicated that adequate arrangements have been made at counting centers to ensure transparency and accuracy. Entry to counting halls will be regulated, and candidates’ representatives will be allowed to observe the process in accordance with election rules.

Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis play a crucial role in rural administration and development planning. They oversee key areas such as local infrastructure, health services, education, and welfare programs. The outcome of these elections is expected to influence policy decisions and development priorities at the district and block levels.
