Election – DMK Alliance Expresses Confidence Ahead of Tamil Nadu Polls
Election – As Tamil Nadu prepares for its upcoming assembly elections, leaders within the Congress party have voiced strong confidence in the ruling alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), signalling an upbeat outlook ahead of polling day.

Congress Backs Alliance Leadership
Tamil Nadu Congress secretary Nivedith Alva on Tuesday reaffirmed the strength of the Congress-DMK partnership, describing it as united and well-prepared for the electoral contest. He noted that the alliance intends to approach the elections with full commitment and expressed optimism about returning to power.
Alva credited the leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin, along with senior Congress figures Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, as a key factor behind the alliance’s confidence. According to him, the combined leadership has helped maintain cohesion within the alliance while focusing on governance and public outreach.
Stalin Calls for Intensified Campaign Efforts
The Congress leader’s remarks follow Chief Minister MK Stalin’s recent appeal to party members to accelerate their campaign activities. Addressing district-level leaders at the party headquarters, Stalin urged them to maximise efforts in the limited time remaining before the elections.
He highlighted that the election schedule has been officially announced, leaving just over a month for campaigning. Stressing the importance of grassroots mobilisation, Stalin called on party workers to ensure strong performance in every constituency contested by the DMK.
Focus on Governance and Welfare Initiatives
Stalin also pointed to the government’s record over the past five years, stating that welfare programmes and administrative measures have contributed to growing public support. He emphasised that these initiatives would play a central role in the party’s campaign narrative.
The DMK leadership believes that its governance track record will resonate with voters, particularly in areas such as social welfare, public services, and infrastructure development.
Election Schedule and Key Dates
The Election Commission of India has announced that voting in Tamil Nadu will be conducted in a single phase on April 23, with results set to be declared on May 4. The announcement has triggered the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, marking the formal beginning of the election process.
Key deadlines have also been outlined. Candidates must file their nominations by April 6, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 7. The final date for withdrawal of candidatures is April 9.
Voter Base and Polling Arrangements
Tamil Nadu’s electorate stands at over 5.67 crore voters, reflecting a diverse demographic spread. This includes more than 2.77 crore male voters and approximately 2.89 crore female voters, along with a smaller number of third-gender voters.
Among the electorate, a significant segment comprises young voters aged between 18 and 19 years. Additionally, the voter list includes persons with disabilities and senior citizens aged 85 and above, highlighting the inclusive nature of the electoral process.
To ensure smooth polling, authorities plan to set up over two lakh polling stations, with millions of election personnel expected to be deployed across multiple regions.
Political Momentum Builds Ahead of Polls
With the campaign period now underway, political parties are intensifying their outreach efforts across the state. The DMK-led alliance is focusing on consolidating its support base, while opposition parties are also expected to step up their campaigns in the coming weeks.
As the countdown to polling day continues, the electoral contest in Tamil Nadu is set to draw significant attention, with both alliances aiming to secure a decisive mandate from voters.
