Detailed review of shortlisted candidates

According to party insiders, the core committee carefully examined each proposed candidate before forwarding the final recommendations to the party’s Central Election Committee. The aim of the meeting was to evaluate the strengths of the shortlisted names and assess their chances in the upcoming election.

Sources familiar with the discussions said that the first list of candidates was reviewed from multiple perspectives. Leaders reportedly looked at past electoral performance, local political dynamics, and the ability of candidates to build support in their constituencies. The party leadership wants to ensure that the chosen nominees have strong prospects in what is expected to be a competitive election.

First list may include candidates for more than 50 seats

Party sources indicated that the initial list of candidates could cover more than 50 Assembly constituencies. Once the Central Election Committee gives its final approval, the party is expected to release the first batch of names.

The Central Election Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday at the party headquarters in New Delhi. Senior leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are expected to attend the meeting where the final decision on the first set of candidates will be taken.

If the committee approves the recommendations from the state leadership, the party may make the announcement soon after the meeting.

Multiple rounds of discussions for key states

A senior BJP source noted that candidate selection for both West Bengal and Kerala is being handled through several rounds of discussions at different levels within the party. The leadership is taking a careful approach to ensure that the final lists reflect the party’s strategy for both states.

The source added that the extensive consultation process reflects the importance the party places on these elections. Both West Bengal and Kerala are currently governed by opposition parties, making the contests politically significant for the BJP.

Party leaders believe that careful selection of candidates will be crucial in strengthening their campaign in these states.

Focus on constituencies where margins were narrow

According to sources, the party is also examining constituencies where its candidates performed strongly in the previous Assembly election but narrowly missed victory. These seats are being treated as particularly important for the upcoming polls.

In West Bengal, roughly 90 to 110 Assembly constituencies are considered key battlegrounds. Many of these seats saw close contests in the last election, making them strategic targets for the party’s campaign planning.

By prioritizing these constituencies, the BJP leadership aims to improve its performance compared with the previous election cycle. Candidate selection, campaign planning, and local organization are expected to play an important role in the party’s overall electoral strategy.

With the Central Election Committee meeting scheduled soon, the political focus now shifts to the announcement of the party’s first list of candidates and the beginning of a more visible election campaign across West Bengal.
