Education – State Board Schools to Follow Unified Summer Vacation Schedule
Education – Summer holidays for students enrolled in State Board primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools will begin on May 2 this year, according to a directive issued by the Directorate of Education. The new academic session for 2026–27 is scheduled to start on June 15, marking a significant shift toward a standardized school calendar across the state.

Uniform Academic Calendar Introduced Across Regions
In a notable change, all State Board schools, including those in the Vidarbha region, will reopen on the same date for the first time. Previously, schools in Vidarbha followed a delayed reopening schedule due to extreme summer temperatures. This move is aimed at ensuring consistency in academic planning and administration throughout the state.
The official communication was jointly issued by Primary Education Director Sharad Gosavi and Secondary Education Director Dr. Mahesh Palkar. It has been circulated to divisional deputy directors, Zilla Parishad education officers, and school inspectors, instructing them to implement the revised schedule uniformly.
Vacation Guidelines for Different Education Boards
The summer break starting May 2 will apply strictly to all institutions affiliated with the State Board. However, schools governed by other educational boards have been given flexibility. They may determine their own vacation schedules, especially if they have ongoing academic commitments or previously planned activities.
Officials clarified that the decision to standardize the holiday period was taken after considering administrative efficiency and the need to align academic timelines across districts.
Special Timings Announced for Vidarbha Schools
While the reopening date has been unified, authorities have acknowledged the unique climatic challenges in Vidarbha. To address concerns related to high temperatures, schools in the region will operate on a temporary morning schedule from June 15 to June 29.
During this period, classes will be conducted between 7:00 am and 11:45 am. Regular school timings will resume from June 30 onwards. This arrangement is intended to reduce students’ exposure to peak daytime heat while maintaining the academic schedule.
Shift from Previous Practice
In earlier years, Vidarbha schools typically reopened 8 to 10 days later than those in other regions due to severe heat conditions. The revised approach eliminates this delay, replacing it with adjusted school hours instead.
Education officials believe this strategy strikes a balance between maintaining uniformity and safeguarding student well-being. By introducing morning shifts rather than postponing reopening dates, the department aims to prevent disruptions in the academic calendar.
Focus on Student Safety and Academic Consistency
The Directorate emphasized that student health and safety remain a priority. The decision to implement temporary morning sessions in hotter regions reflects an effort to adapt to environmental conditions without compromising learning continuity.
At the same time, the move toward a common reopening date is expected to simplify administrative processes, streamline curriculum delivery, and ensure that students across the state progress through the academic year in a synchronized manner.
Education authorities have urged all concerned officials and school administrations to strictly adhere to the new schedule and make necessary arrangements in advance.
