Incident Reported During Internal Examination

The episode took place during an internal assessment in the subject of Homoeopathic Materia Medica. According to preliminary information, the assistant professor supervising the examination noticed a student attempting to use a mobile phone while writing the paper.

The faculty member, identified as Shivaraj Kumar, questioned the student over the suspected malpractice. After confirming the violation, he confiscated the student’s answer sheet and directed him to leave the examination hall.

Officials said the student, identified as Shahbaz, reacted angrily to the action taken against him. He allegedly confronted and physically assaulted the assistant professor inside the examination block.

College Administration Yet to File Formal Complaint

Sources within the institution said the college management has informed the student’s parents about the incident and has barred him from appearing in upcoming examinations as an immediate disciplinary measure.

However, no official complaint has been submitted to the police so far, either by the college authorities or by the assistant professor. Local police stated that they are aware of the incident and are prepared to take action if a formal complaint is filed.

Further details about the extent of injuries or possible internal disciplinary proceedings have not been made public.

Growing Concerns Over Safety of Educators

The Kalaburagi incident comes amid a series of reported cases in Karnataka involving alleged attacks on teachers.

In a separate case earlier this year, police in Chikkamagaluru arrested a 24-year-old labourer named Bhavith for allegedly assaulting a 25-year-old schoolteacher while she was returning home from work on October 29, 2025. Authorities said the accused allegedly intercepted the teacher on her way back and attacked her. The suspect was later taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing.

FIR Filed in Kolar Assault Case

Another case was registered on September 13, 2025, in Malur taluk of Kolar district. Police filed a First Information Report against an auto driver, Chowdappa, following allegations that he assaulted a government school teacher inside a classroom in Kshethranahalli village.

According to the complaint, the incident began when the teacher, identified as Manjula, questioned a student about frequent absences and lack of preparation for a test. The student reportedly left the classroom, stating that he would return with his mother.

Instead, his father, Chowdappa, allegedly entered the school premises shortly afterward. Police said he verbally abused the teacher and pushed her against a doorframe, resulting in a minor head injury. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings in that case.

Calls for Strengthened Campus Security

While the circumstances of each incident differ, the cases have renewed discussions about the safety of teachers both inside educational institutions and outside school premises.

In the Kalaburagi matter, police officials reiterated that they are awaiting a formal complaint before proceeding with any legal action. College authorities have not released a detailed statement but confirmed internal disciplinary steps against the student involved.

Education sector representatives have emphasized the need for clear enforcement of examination rules and protection mechanisms for staff members. As investigations continue in the related cases across Karnataka, officials have urged institutions to maintain strict protocols to prevent misconduct and ensure a safe learning environment.

Further updates are expected as authorities review the developments in the Kalaburagi case.
