Education – Delhi University is set to organise its annual convocation on February 28, where more than 1.2 lakh students will formally receive their degrees across undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.

Vice-President to Attend as Chief Guest
The ceremony will be attended by Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, who will serve as the chief guest. He is expected to present medals and honours to outstanding students during the event. University officials said the convocation will recognise academic achievements across disciplines and mark a significant milestone for thousands of graduating students.
The event is one of the largest academic gatherings hosted by the university each year, drawing students, faculty members and families from across the country.
Over 1.2 Lakh Degrees to Be Awarded
According to figures released by University of Delhi, a total of 1,20,408 students will be awarded degrees this year. These include graduates from undergraduate, postgraduate, research and other academic streams.
Of the total recipients, more than 60,000 are undergraduate students. A significant segment comprises research scholars, with 4,258 candidates completing advanced studies such as PhD and MPhil programmes. The remaining students belong to postgraduate and other specialised courses offered by the university.
Officials highlighted that female students outnumber male students among this year’s graduates. The trend reflects growing participation of women in higher education and sustained enrolment across academic levels.
Regular and Open Learning Programmes
The degrees will be distributed across both regular and distance learning modes. Around 64,620 students from regular programmes will receive their qualifications at the convocation. Meanwhile, approximately 50,780 students enrolled through the School of Open Learning and other open-mode systems will also be conferred degrees.
The School of Open Learning has long catered to students who pursue higher education alongside professional or personal commitments. University authorities noted that the convocation aims to equally recognise the efforts of students from both traditional classroom settings and flexible learning pathways.
Preparations Underway on Campus
Given the scale of the event, extensive preparations are in progress across the campus. Administrative teams are coordinating logistics to manage the large gathering expected on February 28. Special security arrangements are being put in place to ensure smooth entry and exit for students and their families.
Various departments have been assigned specific responsibilities, ranging from stage management and seating arrangements to traffic coordination within university premises. Medical assistance desks and help counters are also likely to be available to guide attendees.
University officials stated that the objective is to conduct the ceremony efficiently while ensuring comfort and safety for participants.
Academic Milestone for Students
For many students, the convocation represents the culmination of years of study and perseverance. Research scholars completing doctoral work will join undergraduate and postgraduate students in marking the transition to the next phase of their academic or professional journeys.
The annual ceremony also serves as an occasion for the institution to celebrate academic excellence and acknowledge contributions made by students in diverse fields. With thousands of degrees being awarded in a single day, the event underscores the scale and reach of higher education at Delhi University.
As the university finalises arrangements, anticipation is building among graduating students and their families, many of whom will travel to the capital to attend the ceremony.
