Education – CBSE to End Post-Result Mark Verification for Class 12 from 2026
Education – The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced that it will discontinue the post-result verification of marks process for Class 12 students starting in 2026. The decision comes as the board moves towards a comprehensive digital assessment system designed to improve accuracy and speed in evaluating answer scripts.
Shift to Fully Digital Assessment System
The new framework, known as On-Screen Marking (OSM), will replace the conventional manual checking process for Class 12 examinations. Under this system, answer sheets will be scanned and assessed digitally, minimizing the likelihood of calculation mistakes and oversight of responses.
Officials stated that the transition is intended to address long-standing concerns related to errors in totaling marks and missed entries, which previously prompted students to request post-result verification. By digitizing the evaluation process, the board aims to eliminate these discrepancies at the source rather than correcting them after results are declared.
The announcement was made during a workshop organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education for school principals and teachers. The session focused on explaining the technical and operational aspects of the OSM system, as well as preparing schools for the upcoming changes.
Why Verification Will No Longer Be Needed
According to Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, requests for verification were primarily related to arithmetic mistakes or unmarked answers in the earlier manual system. With the introduction of digital tools, such issues are expected to be automatically detected and corrected during the evaluation stage itself.
He explained that the new system integrates checks that prevent common human errors, including incorrect totaling and skipped responses. As a result, the need for a separate post-result verification window for Class 12 will become redundant from the 2026 examination cycle onward.
The board believes that this step will not only enhance transparency but also reduce the administrative burden associated with handling thousands of verification requests each year.
Class 10 Exams to Continue in Physical Mode
While Class 12 answer sheets will be evaluated digitally, the board has decided to continue with the traditional physical assessment process for Class 10 examinations for the time being. Officials indicated that further decisions regarding Class 10 may be considered in the future, depending on the implementation and outcomes of the digital system at the senior secondary level.
The phased approach reflects the board’s intent to ensure a smooth transition without disrupting existing examination procedures.
Examinations Set to Begin in February
The board examinations are scheduled to commence from February 17 this year. Schools have been advised to familiarize themselves with the updated guidelines and prepare students accordingly.
Education experts suggest that the move toward digital evaluation aligns with broader efforts to modernize examination systems and integrate technology into academic administration. By addressing potential errors during the assessment process itself, the board aims to provide more reliable results to students.
As preparations continue, schools and students will closely watch how the new digital evaluation framework shapes the examination experience in the coming years.
